CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 01-24-07 and Thursday, 01-25-07. * * * * * ADMINASTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * WELCOME BACK SURE WALK Student’s United for Rape Elimination (SURE Walk) is up and running. Five nights a week, booths are set up in the FAC, Gregory Gym, and the PCL to walk students home at night from 9:00 PM-1:00 AM. For more information about this service please contact Kelly Hickman at: Hickman@mail.utexas.edu PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS, 10100 Burnet Road Reckless Driving: A red Toyota was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian that was in a clearly marked crosswalk. During the investigation, the officer was able to locate the driver. The driver stated that he had not seen anyone in the crosswalk as he drove past the gatehouse. He did however see the gate guard waving at him. Occurred on: 01-24-07, at 11:00PM. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Theft: An Apple iPod, carrying case, and charging cord were stolen from a secured second floor office. During the investigation, the officer learned that a second theft had also occurred. A silver Samsung cellular telephone was reported taken from another secured second floor office. The former owner of the iPod stated that he did not know the serial number nor were there any other identifying marks. Loss value: $220.00. Occurred: between 01-23-07, at 5:00 PM and 01-24-07, at 7:00 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out on the sidewalk, next to a pool of alcohol enriched fertilizer. The officer was able to wake the student after giving several extremely loud voice commands. The officer observed that the subject was disoriented and had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. During the investigation, the officer soon discovered the subject was wearing the ruminants of dinner and adult libations. The officer determined that the subject was a danger to himself. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-24-07, at 9:51 PM. 1500 BLOCK IH-35 FRONTAGE ROAD Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject stopped a marked UT police vehicle and informed the officer that someone had attempted to rob him. The victim stated that two unknown black males drove up to him as he was walking and the passenger got out and struck him in the face while demanding money. The victim ran from the area and the unknown subjects followed him in their vehicle. The subjects left the area prior to the arrival of the officer. During the investigation, a general description of the vehicle and the suspects was aired. A vehicle, matching the broadcasted description was located and the occupants of the vehicle matched the description given by the victim. As the investigation, continued the victim was unable to identify his assailant. Prior to the arrival of the victim, officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for theft. The driver was taken into custody for the warrant and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-25-07, at 2:16 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 42 alarm calls, 2 medical emergency call, 3 suspicious persons calls, and 3 unsecured door reports between 01-24-07 and 01-25-07.
