CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 01-29-07 and Tuesday, 01-30-07. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * On 01-29-07 I sent out a campus wide email identifying many of the services and programs offered by the University of Texas Police Department. An error was made listing the Defensive Driving Course as a free service. There is a $25.00 charge for this service. Sorry for any confusion it might have created. –Sincerely Officer Darrell Halstead ALMETRIS-DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A silver and red colored Roadmaster mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable. During the investigation, the officer learned that the former owner was in the process of registering her property on line with Parking and Transportation. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 01-28-07, between 10:15 AM and 10:30 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A Samsung cellular telephone was stolen from the 3rd floor basketball court after the former owner left his property unattended while playing basketball. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black bi-fold wallet containing $90.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification were stolen from a secured locker located inside the 2nd floor men's locker room. During the investigation, the officer discovered pry marks on the bottom panel. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: between 9:00 PM and 11:49 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Last week UTPD announced that a theft suspect had been arrested. After reading these cases I asked if our theft suspect was still in jail. Which he is. There is now someone else committing thefts inside Gregory Gym. With human nature being what it is, many students and staff members reverted back to old habits after the arrest. These habits include creating the opportunity for a thief to apply his or her trade. The end result – a new victim. Take time to double check your locker and ensure no one has tampered with it. If they have report the damage to REC Sports so that the needed repairs can be made. If you are one of the countless hundreds that insist upon leaving your personal property unattended and unsecured, take heed there is a theft working Gregory Gym. You might be next.
