Crime Prevention Tip: This is a very old scam that has been featured in the Campus Watch. A subject approaches a student or staff member and plays the sympathy card and will give that person a very sad story, then follows up with a request for money. Simply walk away and contact the police. Hats off to the UT staff member that called the police about this subject. 100 BLOCK WEST 21ST STREET Assault With Bodily Injury: A UT student heard a loud popping sound then felt a sharp pain in the left cheek of his gluteus maximus. Occurred on: 2-08-07, at 11:45 PM 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a UT student staggering, attempting to navigate the contours of a straight sidewalk. This challenge proved to be too great. The officer stopped the subject and asked her for her ID. The student handed the officer a five dollar bill and told him that all of her information was there. The officer informed the subject that he did not believe she was Abraham Lincoln and again asked for her ID. The student handed the officer her purse and asked the officer to look for it since she could not find it. The officer located two valid Texas drivers' licenses, one issued to the subject and the other issued to an older friend. The subject began crying, telling the officer that she was a bad person. During the investigation the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath and noted that she needed the support of a stationary wall. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-09-07, at 2:00 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Failure to Identify / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of More Than One Valid Driver's License: Three UT students were observed pulling down a posted "Do Not Enter" sign from the construction gate. During the investigation, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on all three subjects' breaths. All three had stated that they had been drinking at several bars on 6th Street. As the investigation continued, two of the students presented current driver's licenses that indicated both were under the legal age of 21. The third subject told the officers that he did not have his license with him and provided a name and date of birth that put him over the age of 21. When the officer attempted to verify the student's information, the officer caught the student in a Texas Tall Tail. The officer observed a wallet in the subject's back pants pocket. The officer soon discovered that the subject was in possession of another valid driver's license that was not issued to the student. When the student realized he had been caught by the "tail" he tried to reassure the officer that he had given him the correct information. The subject was taken into custody for Failure to Identify and transported to Central Booking.
