CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 02-12-07 and Tuesday, 02-13-07. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1800 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: Two non-UT subjects were discovered setting up a campsite along the creek. During the investigation, the officer issued both subjects a written criminal trespass warning and escorted them from the area. Occurred on: 2-11-07, at 9:43 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Theft: A Hewlett Compaq laptop computer along with 20 feet of Ethernet cable were reported stolen from an unsecured area. Loss value: $1,100. Occurred: between 1-31-07 and 2-02-07. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Assault With Injuries: A non-UT subject attending an event at the Erwin Center encountered her ex-boyfriend and his new current girlfriend. Both females became involved in a discussion about parenting skills and promiscuity. This discussion caused the ex-boyfriend and his current girlfriend to make a hasty exit from the building. The ex-girlfriend was hot on their heels. The new girlfriend grabbed the arm of ex-girlfriend's and twisted it causing pain and redness. The victim contacted the police via her cellular telephone and ordered her ex-boyfriend to stay until the police arrived. The victim lost sight of the pair as they entered a Capitol Metro Bus and left the area. Occurred on: 2-12-07, at 9:42 PM. JESTER DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Smell of Marijuana: A UT staff member detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana coming from a 5th floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the police officers, they too detected a strong odor of burning marijuana. The officers knocked on the door and a resident opened the door to the room and the officers observed a thick cloud of smoke hanging in the air. Based on the officers' training and experience, law enforcement action was taken. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the student received a written referral to the Dean of Students Office. Occurred on: 2-10-07, at 1:50 AM. JESTER DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Marin mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located inside the inner courtyard after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred: between 2-09-07, at 3:00 PM and 2-12-07, at 2:14 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A Dell laptop computer was stolen from a 4th floor study carrel after being left unattended. During the investigation, the officer located a UT student that had observed two unknown suspicious subjects who were seen in the area. The subjects were described as: White males in their 20s. Loss value: $1,600.00. Occurred on: 2-12-07, between 6:20 PM and 7:05 PM. SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A silver colored Roadmaster mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northwest side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred: between 2-09-07, at 4:00 PM and 2-12-07, at 8:00 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered that a third floor men's toilet had been plugged when an unknown subject attempted to flush a 12-oz soda can. This action caused a substantial inconvenience. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 2-12-07, at 10:39 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Driving While Intoxicated / Public Intoxication / Possession of Marijuana: A UT police officer observed the rear passenger inside a silver Saturn hanging outside the window. The subject was displaying an extreme physical reaction to the overconsumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the officer observed that the driver appeared to have passed out behind the wheel. After several attempts to wake the driver, the driver opened his eyes, then opened the door. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol and the aroma of burnt marijuana inside the vehicle. As the investigation continued, the officer observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. As the driver got out of the vehicle, he needed the support of the fender to maintain his balance. As the driver spoke, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver and the driver displayed several clues that he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Another officer identified the passenger as a juvenile (under the age of 17). The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the juvenile's breath and asked him if he had been drinking. The juvenile reached into his shirt pocket and removed 5 "pull tops" and replied, "This many." The juvenile was issued a field release citation and was released to a legal guardian. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a plastic baggie that contained a green leafy substance that was identified as marijuana. Additional charges were filed on the driver. Occurred on: 2-10-07, at 3:40 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 28 alarm calls, 2 fire calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons calls, 2 medical calls, and 5 unsecured buildings between 02-12-07 and 02-13-07.
