CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 02-14-07 and Thursday, 02-15-07. Several subscribers have requested a picture of the UT police K9 officers. Attached is a photograph of Sgt. Jason Stock and Maatje. Both Sgt. Stock and his partner Maatje were awarded Top Dog Team, 1st place in Explosives Detection, and 2nd place in Patrol (Criminal Apprehension). PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Disorderly Conduct: A UT staff member requested an unknown subject to exit the men's restroom so that she could clean it up. The unknown subject began communicating with her in sign language by extending his middle finger. The subject then left the area. The unknown subject was described as a black male who was last seen wearing black pants and a grey jacket. Occurred on: 2-14-07, at 4:42 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A grey Toshiba laptop computer was stolen from a 4th floor study desk after it was left unattended. The former owner was approx. 25 yards away and had left his laptop unattended for less then 2 minutes. Loss value: $1,200.00. Occurred on: 2-14-07, between 4:00 PM and 4:02 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the second theft from this floor within the last three days. In this case the window of opportunity was 2 minutes. Thieves apply their trade in the same way a predator stalks its prey. A predator simply waits for the opportunity to pounce on an unsuspecting victim. This unknown thief was waiting for the former owner to simply walk away and provide that opportunity to pounce. 1000 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Driving While Intoxicated: A black Mercury Cougar was observed weaving back and forth between two eastbound traffic lanes. A UT officer observed that the vehicle almost struck a pedestrian crossing Dean Keeton in a clearly marked crosswalk. When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and observed that the driver had two black X's on the back of her hands. The driver informed the officer that she had been at Graham's Central Station, but had consumed 1 ½ beers at a friend's house. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver exhibited several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-15-07, at 1:25 AM. 2000 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE Suspicious Person: A non-UT subject observed an unknown subject look into several vehicles that were parked next to a sorority house. The unknown subject is described as a white male, 5'-08", slim build, transient in appearance, with a full beard. Occurred on: 2-14-07, between 3:45 AM and 4:30 AM. 2600 BLOCK WHITIS AVE. Theft: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject enter a Club Car golf cart that was parked on the west side of the dormitory. The staff member watched as the subject drove the cart away. The staff member followed the golf cart to the 2800 block of Nueces where the unknown subject abandoned the cart. The unknown subject is described as: Hispanic male, 25 years of age, 5'-8", medium build, with thick shoulder length black hair. The subject was last seen wearing a long brown shirt and blue jeans. Loss value: $3,000.00 (Recovered). Occurred on: 2-14-07, at 1:00 PM.
