CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 02-23-07 and Monday, 02-26-07. ALEMETRIS-DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A silver colored Hybrid road bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 2-24-07, between 12:01 PM and 4:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This tip is being provided by a Campus Watch subscriber. Thank you. It’s pretty much what your e-mails have been saying over and over again, but obviously you can’t say it enough. Just thought you’d want to see that in case you want to share with the rest of the campus watch community. HARRY RANSOM CENTER, 300 West 21st Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to enter the building after it was closed. After several futile attempts to open the locked exterior doors, the subject needed to rest by leaning against the wall. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath, and noted that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject informed the officer that he was walking back to San Antonio, but was not sure where he was. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-25-07, at 3:30 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): UT police officers responded to a local business inside the dormitory in reference to a subject creating a disturbance and cussing at the staff. Upon the arrival of the officers, the business staff members were pointing to a subject sitting at a table with two other students. During the investigation, the officers detected the odor of alcohol on the breath of the subject who had created the disturbance. The student only explained that he was "mad." A second subject kept interrupting the officer during his investigation. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the second subject's breath. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that both students were under the legal age of 21 and issued them both field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 2-24-07, at 4:13 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member contacted UTPD after a student began yelling at the staff and refusing to leave the lobby after being told to do so. During the investigation, the officers recognized the student as the same one involved in a prior altercation about 30 minutes earlier. The subject's speech was slurred, and he had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-24-07, at 4:59 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: UT police officer responded to a second floor dormitory room on a report of a possible alcohol overdose. Upon the arrival of the officers, they discovered a UT student who was complaining of being cold and not able to feel his extremities and was scared to fall asleep. Officers soon discovered that the student was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. Austin EMS treated the student for alcohol poisoning at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 2-25-07, at 3:05 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Theft: A Samsung Helio cellular telephone was stolen from a secured locker located in the basement locker room. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 2-22-07, between 5:30 PM and 8:15 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A silver Samsung cellular telephone was stolen after being left unsecured on a bench. The former owner walked away from her unsecured property before realizing that fact. Upon returning to the area her property was gone. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 2-23-06, between 1:00 PM and 1:05 PM UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to conceal a metal flask in his left front pants pocket. When the student was stopped, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The student removed a silver flask from his left front pocket then showed the officer his fraternity card. The student claimed that the flask was empty; however, the officer discovered a small amount of alcohol inside the flask. The flask was confiscated as evidence and the student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and ejected from the concert. Occurred on: 2-23-07, at 8:15 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 98 alarm calls, 7 suspicious activity calls, 8 suspicious persons calls, 2 collision report, 5 medical emergencies, and 16 unsecured buildings between 02-23-07 and 02-26-07.
