Occurred on: 2-26-07, between 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tips: As we have read, there were two laptop computers stolen yesterday. Besides bicycles, laptop computers are the next most popular item sought out by a thief this semester. There are a couple of things we can do to reduce the risk of having our computers stolen. The most obvious is to secure the laptop under lock and key when it is not being used. But many thieves will not risk getting caught with property that can easily be traced back to its former owner. Engraving your driver's license number on two surfaces that are plainly visible will reduce that theft risk. SPRING BREAK 2007 This time next week many UT students will be enjoying a long anticipated annual event. Since many of the Spring Break trips have now been planned and booked, many students are formulating their itinerary of events. We have seen in the Campus Watch how busy the officers get during certain events held at UT. For many police departments around the country this is one of those events. During the next month police departments in Florida, Texas, and other Spring Break locations will eclipse the number of arrests and medical emergency calls that UTPD during an entire year. Many of these arrests will be alcohol related, not just for MIP, Public Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct, but for Assaults including Sexual Assaults. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 32 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons calls, 3 medical emergencies, and 4 unsecured buildings between 02-26-07 and 02-27-07. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
