SPRING BREAK 2007 Yesterday we discussed some of the problems local police departments will be facing during the next month with all of the Spring Break activities happening on their beaches and ski resorts. Many of criminal offenses will be related to alcohol issues: MIP, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, as well as Assaults, including Sexual Assaults. Many times friends are the ones that will draw the attention of the police because of their actions. So how can you tell if a friend has a drinking problem? Sometimes it's tough to tell. But there are signs you can look for. If your friend has one or more of the following warning signs, he or she may have a problem with alcohol: • Getting drunk on a regular basis • Lying about how much alcohol he or she is using • Believing that alcohol is necessary to have fun • Having frequent hangovers • Feeling run-down, depressed, or even suicidal • Having "blackouts" -- forgetting what he or she did while drinking • Having problems at school or getting in trouble with the law CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 28 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 3 suspicious persons calls, 2 medical emergencies, and 6 unsecured buildings between 02-27-07 and 02-28-07. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
