CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 02-28-07 and Friday, 03-02-07. **Administrative Notice** On Saturday March 3, 2007 UTPD will be participating with APD and dozens of other local and state law enforcement agencies in a Warrant Round Up. Persons with outstanding citations or warrants will be visited by law enforcement officers and arrested on those warrants. Anyone in the City of Austin with warrants may voluntarily make fine payments at Municipal Court locations without fear of arrest. Credit cards may also be used to make payments to the Municipal Court via telephone at (512)974-4640. PARKING LOT 109, 2200 Leona Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle (Criminal Episode): A UT police officer discovered the windows on a Chevy, Toyota, Lexus, and two Fords were broken. The officer soon learned several of the radios from various vehicles appeared to be missing. During the investigation, the officer observed pry marks on one of the vehicle's passenger door. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 2-28-07, between 4:00 AM and 5:20 AM. SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORKS, 1925 Red River Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping near the southeast portion of the building. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he had received a prior criminal trespass warning near DFF, but had believed he was not on campus since he was now west of the Interstate. The officer issued the subject a written criminal trespass warning and explained the boundaries of campus. The subject was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-28-07, at 7:15 AM. 2200 San Jacinto BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: An officer observed a white Mitsubishi disregard 2 stop signs and paced the vehicle at 30 mph in a 15 mph zone. As the officer approached the vehicle, he detected an odor of alcohol coming from the inside of the vehicle. The driver, non-UT, had glassy, blood shot eyes, his speech was slurred, and the odor of alcohol was on his breath. The officer asked the driver to step out of his vehicle and consent to the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver consented and displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. 2200 San Antonio RD Public Intoxication: An officer observed a subject having difficulties standing, while relieving himself on a wall in a parking lot. After the subject finished, he was unable to maintain his balance while walking near the roadway. His eyes were glassy, his speech was slurred, and he acted tired or sleepy. The subject was given the opportunity to phone a friend. He was unable to contact a sober, responsible adult to take responsibility for him. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT police officer watched as a subject exited a black SUV and run to the rear of the vehicle and open the rear gate. The officer observed a second subject curled up in the rear compartment. The first subject attempted to removed the second subject from the vehicle as the second subject began having an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The first subject was unsuccessful in his attempt. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the second subject. The subject's eyes were blood shot and he was unable to maintain his balance. The officer asked the subject how much he had been drinking. The subject replied, "To much!" The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-01-07, at 2:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 alarm calls, 1 suspicious person call, 2 suspicious activity calls, and 1 unsecured building between 02-28-07 and 03-02-07. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
