CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 03-02-07 and Tuesday, 03-06-07. ALMETRIS DURen HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A black Honda racing bicycle was discovered stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building after being secured with a self locking cable lock. Loss value: $ 150.00. Occurred: between 3-04-07, at 1:00 PM and 3-05-07, at 6:00 PM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft: A blue Specialized mountain bicycle was stolen from the bicycle racks located on the south side of the building after being secured to the bike rack with a self-locking cable. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 3-05-07, between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING –B, 2504-B Whitis Ave. Attempted Theft: A UT student observed an unknown subject "hunched over" a bicycle attempting to cut the cable lock with a pair of pliers. The student confronted the subject, and the subject immediately placed the pliers into a red backpack. After being confronted, the unknown subject left the area. The unknown subject is described as: Black male, 6'-0", slender build, "Angular face" with short facial hair. The subject was last seen wearing a tan jacket, blue ball cap and carrying a red backpack. During the investigation, the officer located the bicycle and discovered that the subject had attempted to cut the self-locking cable. Occurred on: 3-05-07, at 7:35 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication / Resisting Arrest: UT police officers responded to Jester on a report of an intoxicated subject who was being disruptive. Upon the arrival of the officers, the subject had just left the area. Officers located the subject near the Sports Court. The subject was staggering and weaving back and forth as he attempted to walk. When the subject was told to stop, the subject began using language that would make every mother proud. The subject attempted to push past the officer, but since his balance was in question, he lost his footing. The subject cut loose a tirade, but due to his intoxication level the words were slurred. The subject continued to resist the officers after being told that he was under arrest for Public Intoxication. The officers were able to gain control of the subject and took him into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-03-07, at 3:40 AM TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: A Macintosh MacBook laptop computer was stolen after being left unattended on a window sill next to a bank of lockers. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 3-02-07, between 10:19 AM and 11:19 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: A silver Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: 250.00. Occurred on: 3-01-07, between 10:00 AM and 8:40 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 7th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed using a light pole to help maintain her balance prior to stepping in front of on coming traffic. The officer grabbed the subject's arm to stop her as the on coming vehicle applied its breaks to stop short of striking the student. During the investigation, the student stated she was a light drinker and had consumed "one drink." The student's eyes were bloodshot, watery as well as dilated. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-02-07, at 1:42 AM. 2200 BLOCK COMAL Driving While Intoxicated / Assist Outside Agency / Possession of a Controlled Substance / Public Intoxication: A black Chevy was observed striking a curb while traveling west on Martin Luther King Blvd. The vehicle then drove the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver refused to submit to the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests stating that she had a very good attorney. The officer detected enough clues that the driver was intoxicated and had been operating a motor vehicle. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. Officers soon discovered that the driver had an outstanding Outside Agency warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. As the investigation continued, the passengers inside the vehicle were identified and officers soon discovered that both passengers were also intoxicated to a point that they were a danger to themselves. Both passengers were taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search officers located a prescription bottle of Hydrocodeine, 15 Xanax pills, and two baggies containing Marijuana. All subjects were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-03-07, at 2:10 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed swaying back and forth while relieving himself. The subject was then observed staggering as he attempted to navigate the straight contours of the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject's pants could not defy gravity as they slipped off his hips during the investigation. The officer noted that the subject's speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-02-07, at 2:45 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 168 alarm calls, 9 suspicious person call, 10 suspicious activity calls, and 12 unsecured building between 03-02-07 and 03-06-07.
