CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 03-07-07 and Friday, 03-09-07. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3500 Block Lake Austin Blvd Burglary of Motor: The driver's side window of a Honda was discovered broken out and the faceplate to the AM / FM / CD stereo was missing. Loss value: $ 50.00. Discovered on: 3-07-07, at 9:06 AM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATION BUILDING, 2504-A Whitis Ave. Attempted Theft: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject "hunched over" a bicycle located on the northeast side of the building. The unknown subject saw that he was being watched and left the area. During the investigation, the officers located a black / gold / and red Haro mountain bicycle with a cut lock. The bicycle was impounded. The unknown subject was described as: black male, last seen wearing a ball cap, tan jacket and carrying a red backpack. Occurred on: 3-07-07, at 1:33 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 Block North IH-35 Criminal Mischief: A UT police officer discovered several doughnuts had been arranged onto a radio antenna, the hood and roof of a red Hyundai. The officer then discovered several feminine hygiene produces adhered to the vehicles windows. Discovered on: 3-09-07, at 12:20 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the 2nd floor. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-08-07, at 2:12 AM. SID RICHARDSON HALL, 201 East 22nd Street Theft / Failure to Identify / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed three subjects inside an EZ-GO golf cart. The driver of the vehicle began committing several traffic violations when a marked UT police vehicle began following the golf cart. The driver attempted to avoid the officer by traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. After the vehicle was stopped all three occupants provided the officer with false names and dates of birth. During the investigation, the officer realized that the subjects had not provided him with their correct information. As the interview continued, the officer detected varying amounts of alcohol on all three subject's breath. As the investigation continued, the officer observed a parking permit on the EZ-GO that indicated that the golf cart was under the control of the Institute of Latin American Studies. All three subjects were taken into custody for Theft (Felony), Failure to Identify (after their true identity was established), and Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (After their identity was verified). All three subjects were transported to Central Booking. Loss value / Recovered value: $2,200.00. Occurred on: 3-09-07, at 12:50 AM. 2200 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: The owner of a local business stopped a UT police officer and explained that a subject was inside his business threatening his customers with physical violence. During the investigation, the officers observed a subject swaying back and forth and using a wall to maintain his balance. The subject appeared to be unaware of his surroundings. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath, and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-07-07, at 11:40 PM. During Spring Break there is always a higher risk of sexual assault due mainly to a larger population of intoxicated students. The following is a reminder from the UT Voices Against Violence: Consent IS: -Based on choice -Active, not passive or passed out -Only possible when there is equal power -Giving your permission by saying yes -Negotiable at each stage: yes to one thing does not indicate yes to everything Consent Is NOT: -Giving in because of fear -Based on manipulation, deception or lying -Possible when one person has more power -Possible if one person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs Giggling, changing the subject or squirming away does not communicate YES or NO. To give your permission, you must be able to say YES or NO without pressure. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 76 alarm calls, 5 suspicious person calls, 4 suspicious activity calls, and 8 unsecured buildings between 03-07-07 and 03-09-07.
