CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 03-21-07 and Friday, 03-23-07. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department is seeking your assistance in locating the owners of the following property that was taken in or around the San Jacinto Residence Hall: Blue GT mountain bicycle FORMER OWNER LOCATED Silver Marin mountain bicycle Yellow Raleigh mountain bicycle These bicycles were recovered after a theft suspect was taken into custody. * * * * LONGHORNS FIGHTING BACK * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is proud to announce the Second 2007 Hungry For Justice recipient this week. If you observe a subject attempting to steal a bicycle and your telephone call leads to that persons arrest or apprehension the University of Texas Police Department will give you a FREE PIZZA. BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave. Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT student passed out inside a first floor women's restroom. The UT student would not respond to the staff member. The staff member contacted Austin EMS and UTPD. During the investigation, the student was treated at the scene by EMS for possible alcohol poisoning. The student informed EMS that she had drank only two shots, but had not slept in two days. The student refused to be taken to a local area hospital and was released at the scene by EMS. The officer issued the UT student a referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 3-23-07, at 2:12 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside the gym playing basketball. During the investigation, the REC Sports staff requested that the subject be issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. The officer complied and issued the subject a written criminal trespass warning and escorted him from the campus area. Occurred on: 3-22-07, at 7:00 PM. PARKING LOT 106, 1900 East Manor Road Suspicious Activity: An unknown subject was observed walking around inside the parking lot looking into vehicles. The unknown subject was observed rummaging around inside an open bed of a white Chevy truck. The subject was stopped by a local business owner and told to leave. The unknown subject was last seen walking into an alley. The unknown subject was described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt and black pants. Occurred on: 3-21-07, at 8:06 AM. PARKING LOT 115, 2000 Leona Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer observed a subject stand up from between two parked vehicles. The subject then attempted to leave the parking lot. During the investigation, additional officers began searching the parking lot and discovered fresh palm prints on the windows of several vehicles. None of the vehicles had been broken into. As the investigation continued, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-22-07, at 3:28 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: 3:28 AM is early to be getting up to go window shopping, but that is exactly what many auto burglars will do. Why? Many of the vehicle owners are sleeping. To discourage early morning window shopping, take everything out of your vehicle. Items typically left inside a vehicle include CDs, loose change, backpacks, and anything else that can be pawned. Take the time to remove or hide these types of items. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member responded to a third floor dormitory room on a violation of Housing and Foods policy. Once at the doorway the staff member detected the odor of burning marijuana coming from the room. Upon the arrival of the UT police officers the odor of burning marijuana was not present. During the investigation, the officer identified the dormitory resident and her two guests. The officer did not observe any evidence. The resident was referred to the Dean of Students. Occurred on: 3-22-07, at 11:30 PM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a subject bracing himself while having an extreme physical reaction to the over-consumption of alcohol. The subject appeared to be disheveled. After completing the age old ritual, the subject stepped away from the vehicle and began losing his balance. Had it not been for the conveniently placed fence, the subject would have fallen. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was confused as to his location, day and time. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-23-07, at 2:09 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Assist Outside Agency: A Toyota Camry was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the investigation, the officer learned that the driver had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-23-07, at 1:05 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Theft / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject lay a bicycle onto the ground as a marked police vehicle was passing through the area. The subject retrieved the bicycle once the police officer was gone. The staff member contacted the UT Police Department to report the suspicious activity. The responding officers located the non-UT subject riding one bicycle and towing another. During the investigation, the subject was unable to provide the officers with any detailed information about either bicycle that was in his possession. One officer discovered that one of the bicycles was registered with a university in another State. During the investigation, officers were able to locate the registered owner and learned that she had sold the property to another friend. The subject was taken into custody for Theft. As the investigation progressed, the subject was found to be in possession of two glass tubes that contained a yellowish white residue. The officer recognized that the subject was in possession of drug paraphernalia used to inhale vapors from an illegal substance. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-21-07, at 2:20 PM. 2800 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject stopped a marked police vehicle and informed the officer about a stolen vehicle. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject's vehicle had been stolen from a party after vehicle keys had been removed from a table. After the subject had reported his vehicle stolen he received a telephone call. The caller told the subject where his vehicle could be found. The officer verified that the vehicle had been reported stolen and notified the reporting agency. The officer was instructed to release the vehicle to the registered owner. Occurred on: 3-19-07, at 12:23 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 53 alarm calls, 6 suspicious person calls, 11 suspicious activity calls, two lighting surveys, 3 medical emergency calls, 2 collision investigations, and 10 unsecured buildings between 03-21-07 and 03-23-07.
