CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 03-23-07 and Tuesday, 03-27-07. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Interfering With an Emergency Telephone Call / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT subject observed his ex-girlfriend standing outside of his dormitory room. The student attempted to walk away and avoid a confrontation. The ex-girlfriend grabbed his backpack in an attempt to keep him there. The ex-girlfriend then grabbed the student's cellular telephone as he was dialing 911 and hung up the telephone. The student went to a pay telephone and contacted the UT Police Department. During the investigation, the officers learned that the student had also been grabbed to prevent him from leaving the 5th floor area. The ex-girlfriend was taken into custody for Interfering With an Emergency Telephone Call and transported to Central Booking. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the officer discovered that the ex-girlfriend is a UT student, but not assigned to the Jester Dormitory. She was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on: 3-26-07, at 1:00 AM. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Suspicious Person: A non-UT subject entered into a third floor conference room during a luncheon. The subject became loud and boisterous. After being asked to leave, the subject began discussing optimism with several subjects attending the luncheon. During the investigation, the officer observed the subject writing poems and enjoying the luncheon. The subject was escorted from the area and given a verbal criminal trespass warning. Occurred on: 3-26-07, at 11:23 AM. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out inside the first floor community shower. Officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer learned that the subject had been found unconscious inside the shower with the water still running. The student, wearing only shorts, was removed from the shower, and Austin EMS began treating him for alcohol poisoning. Austin EMS recommended that the subject be transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. The student refused. During the investigation, the officer noted that the subject was confused about the date and time and was having difficulty maintaining his balance. After refusing to be transported to a local hospital, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-24-07, at 11:05 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A non-UT subject was observed by UT staff having an extreme physical reaction to the overconsumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and determined that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject informed the officer that she had consumed "way too much alcohol." The subject then proceeded to repeat the ago-old ritual. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released to a sober adult. Occurred on: 3-24-07, at 12:03 AM. SARAH & CHARLES SEAY BUILDING, 108 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black and yellow backpack containing an Apple iPod, reading glasses and a Motorola cellular telephone was stolen from an unsecured third floor office. Loss value: $930.00. Occurred on: 3-26-07, between 4:15 PM and 5:45 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Dr. Theft: A silver Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 9-23-07, between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM. UT ANNEX, 1616 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered camping under the east exterior awning. The subject had removed his shoes and socks and was preparing to go to sleep. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on: 3-26-07, at 11:45 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Criminal Trespass Warnings / Assist Outside Agency: Two non-UT subjects were observed soliciting in front of the Service Building. During the investigation, the officers were able to locate the subjects several blocks away. As the investigation continued, the officers learned that one subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Both subjects were issued written criminal trespass warnings. Occurred on: 3-26-07, at 3:22 PM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out next to the Colorado Building. The officers attempted several times to wake the subject up. The subject did open his eyes and told the officers, "I'm cool." During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject rolled over and went back to sleep. After constant pestering the subject woke up and had a difficult time sitting up. After sitting, the subject was asked to stand. The subject wobbled but made it to his feet. As the investigation continued, it became apparent that the subject was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody. The subject became very agitated and began to threaten the officers. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-26-07, at 9:03 PM. 800 BLOCK EAST 15th STREET Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A grey Mercury Cougar was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and committing several additional traffic violations. During the investigation, the driver was very evasive in answering direct questions. As the investigation continued, the driver gave the officer consent to search the vehicle. The officer discovered a 750 ml bottle of Thunderbird. The officer soon confirmed the driver's identity and discovered that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken the officer issued the subject several traffic citations. Occurred on: 3-24-07, at 12:40 AM. 2600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to navigate the straight contours of a sidewalk. As the subject attempted to cross the street, his pants could no longer defy gravity and fell around his ankles. The officer observed that the subject was having challenges pulling up his pants and maintaining his balance. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted his physical condition. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-27-07, at 1:18 AM. 2600 BLOCK WICHITA STREET Assist Outside Agency: UT police officers responded to a report of four dogs inside a locked van. During the investigation, the officers discovered that the owner had left both food and water for the animals. However, as the investigation progressed, the officers soon discovered that the dog's owner had several outstanding outside agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. The dogs were released to the Austin Humane Society. Occurred on: 3-23-07, at 9:50 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 133 alarm calls, 16 suspicious person calls, 11 suspicious activity calls, two lighting surveys, 10 medical emergency calls, 2 collision investigations, and 31 unsecured buildings between 03-23-07 and 03-27-07.
