CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 03-30-07 and Tuesday, 04-03-07. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Block Red River Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: Two non-UT subjects were discovered camping within the boundaries of the park. During the investigation, the officer determined that neither subject was a student or staff member at the University of Texas. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that one subject had two outstanding outside agency warrants. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, both subjects were issued written criminal trespass warnings. The second subject was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-30-07, at 5:42 PM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS CENTER, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a fifth floor men's restroom bathing. According to the reporting person, the non-UT subject had been using the restroom to bathe in for over a month. During the investigation, the officer soon learned that the subject had been issued several prior criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-30-07, at 7:43 AM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member detected the odor of burning marijuana inside a 3rd floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the UT police officers, the officers were only able to detect the odor of a burning cigar. During the investigation, the officers identified the two residents and observed that their eyes were bloodshot. The officers conducted a search of the dormitory room and did not discover any illegal substances. Occurred on: 3-31-07, at 10:46 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered that the 5th floor exit sign had been pulled from its ceiling mount and the plastic exit signs were removed. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 3-31-07, 10.00 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Public Intoxication / Possession of Marijuana: A UT student was discovered crying outside the north exterior door. During the investigation, the student stated that she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend at a party at the Fiji House. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath and learned that she was under the legal age of 21. As the student stood up, she needed the support of a wall to maintain her balance and to keep from falling. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search of the student, the officer discovered a small plastic baggie that contained several rolled up marijuana cigarettes. The student was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-30-07, at 11:45 PM. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Theft: A blue Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred: between, 3-30-07, at 5:00 PM and 4-02-07, at 5:59 PM. PARLIN HALL, #2 South Mall Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered that an unknown subject had dispersed the contents of a fire extinguisher into a 4th floor hallway. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 3-31-07, at 2:12 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: What might start out as a good natured prank might end with disastrous results. Fire extinguishers have one intended use, to put out fires. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A yellow Haro mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $ 200.00. Occurred on: 3-30-07, between 12:01 PM and 4:45 PM. PRATHER DORMITORY, 305 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student observed a non-UT subject enter into the dormitory after an unknown student was leaving. During the investigation, the officer located the subject exiting the dormitory with another student. The officer learned that the subject had simply waited until the door opened and went inside to visit a friend. The non-UT subject was given a verbal warning about unauthorized entry. Occurred on: 4-01-07, at 9:44 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Big round of applause for the student who took the time to contact the police and report the suspicious actions of this subject. Job Well Done. As the investigation revealed, this subject would have been an authorized guest of the resident. However, the subject was trespassing when he entered the dormitory without being escorted. As a reminder, your dormitory room, apartment, or duplex is your personal residence. Do you allow total strangers to walk into your parent's home? If not, then why allow a stranger to enter into a restricted residence hall without being questioned? SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A blue Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the southwest side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred: between, 3-28-07, at 12:01 PM and 3-31-07, at 3:41 PM. SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A blue Pacific mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred: between 3-31-07, at 9:00 PM and 4-01-07, at 4:30 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed stumbling as he was walking along a straight sidewalk. During the investigation, the student stated that he was coming back from a party at a fraternity house. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student's breath. The officer soon learned that the student was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-01-07, at 2:28 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): Two UT students were staggering. One student was observed leaning to the left and the other to the right, not in their political views but in an effort to support each other as they attempted to maintain their navigational beacons back to Jester Dormitory. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students. The students stated that they had been to a fraternity party on San Jacinto Blvd. As the investigation continued the officer discovered that both students were under the legal age of 21. Both students were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-01-07, at 2:33 AM. 1900 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE. Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed entering the construction site located in the 1900 Block University Ave. The officer observed that there were several "No Trespassing" signs placed along the exterior of the fence along with several "Danger Do Not Enter Authorized Personnel Only" signs. During the investigation, the officers located the subject who had climbed over the construction fence. The subject was in the process of going to sleep. As the investigation continued the officers discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and for the warrant. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-01-07, at 1:34 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated /Possession of a Control Substance / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (6 Counts): A blue Ford Explorer, with seven occupants was observed running though a stop sign at the intersection of San Jacinto and 21st Street. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The driver stated that he and his friends were coming from a downtown birthday party. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed enough clues that indicated that he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody. During a search of the driver, the officer located a small blue pill that was identified as Adderall. The six passengers were all identified as UT students. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on their breaths. Each student was under the legal age of 21 and they were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-01-07, at 2:34 AM. 2600 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A black Mazda was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and ran through several stop signs. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver presented the officer his UTID instead of a driver's license and insurance card. The officer noted that the driver's eyes were unfocused and bloodshot. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the drivers. The driver could not perform the tests. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-02-07, at 12:29 AM CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 129 alarm calls, 10 suspicious person calls, 15 suspicious activity calls, 2 medical emergency calls, and 27 unsecured buildings between 03-30-07 and 04-03-07.
