CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 04-12-07 and Tuesday, 04-17-07. The University of Texas Police Department would like to express our deep felt sorrow to the families and friends of the students and staff at Virginia Tech University. Our thoughts are with you. PARKING LOT 103, 2100 Block Comal Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: An unidentified subject discovered the driver's side window of a Chevy Tahoe broken out and the stereo missing. The unidentified subject contacted the UT police. During the investigation, the officer observed that the in-dash stereo system had been ripped out of the dash and the stereo wires were left hanging out of the driver's broken window. As the investigation continued, the officer was unable to locate the owner of the vehicle. It is unknown at this time what other property is missing. Loss value: Unknown. Discovered on: 4-16-07, at 4:42 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject sleeping and snoring inside the first floor computer lab. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had received a written criminal trespass warning for the same area one month prior. The subject was taken into custody for criminal trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-16-07, at 11:11 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Fictitious License: UT police officers responded to the southeast stairwell on a report of a group of subjects smoking marijuana. During the investigation, the officers observed three subjects walking away from that area. As the investigation continued, one officer observed a subject attempt to conceal a second State of Texas driver's license. The officer discovered that the second license was fictitious since it did not have "Not a Valid Texas License" written across the front of the license in ΒΌ inch red block letters. The fictitious license was confiscated and the subject was issued a field release citations. During the entire investigation, the officers were unable to located any controlled substances. Occurred on: 4-16-07, at 4:30 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6TH STREET Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject stumbling as he walked down an alley way. While stumbling along the straight contours of the alley, the subject fell and could not get up unassisted. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject stated that he was waiting for his wife to pick him up and take him home for the night. As the investigation continued, the subject was released to subject's father since the officer could not contact the subject's wife. The subject was released after receiving a field release citation for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 4-15-07, at 3:20 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Public intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered laying with half of his body on the sidewalk and the other half in the UT flora. After several attempts at prodding the subject awake the officer was able to wake the subject up. The subject was confused as to his location and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject attempted to stand up but could not maintain his balance without stumbling backwards and swaying back and forth. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-13-07, at 5:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Yesterday the University of Texas Police Department unveiled a new brochure that addresses student and staff safety when being confronted by an armed individual. This protocol is designed to assist in establishing an individual safety plan, to provide an individual with several options. http://www.utexas.edu/police/ CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 125 alarm calls, 23 suspicious person calls, 22 suspicious activity calls, 5 medical emergency calls, and 35 unsecured buildings between 04-12-07 and 04-17-07.
