CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 05-03-07 and Friday, 05-04-07. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A JVC CD/MP3 player, Apple iPod, and iPod converter were stolen from a red Jeep Cherokee. Entry into the vehicle was gained after the passenger's side lock was damaged. During the investigation, the officer learned that the former owner had engraved her name onto her iPod and iPod converter. Loss value: $380.00. Occurred on: 5-03-07, between 1:00 PM and 11:15 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Kudos to this student for engraving her personal property prior to this burglary. Engraving your personal property will not prevent it from being stolen, but it will make it very difficult for the thief to sell it. The University of Texas Police Department provides engravers to the students, staff, and faculty free of charge. You can check out an engraver and mark all of your personal or departmental property. ROBERT LEE MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Suspicious Person: A UT police officer responded to the 13th floor on a report of a suspicious person. According to a UT staff member a UT student became upset because several UT staff members were eating their lunch inside the break room. The subject began slamming books onto a non-offending table, and then shoved a chair against a neighboring table. As the staff members were leaving, the subject commented to them to "be careful." During the investigation, the officer learned that this was not the first incident involving this same subject. As the investigation continued, the officer discovered a photograph of the subject posted outside a 13th floor office. Occurred on: 5-03-07, at 6:13 PM. TAYLOR HALL, #8 East Mall Criminal Trespass: A UT student observed a non-UT subject sleeping inside a basement level computer lab. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he was sleeping because his stomach was upset. The officer soon discovered that the subject had several prior written criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-04-07, at 1:30 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed attempting to navigate a straight course between his navigational beacons, the sidewalk and curb. The student stepped off the curb into oncoming traffic. The subject was stopped after falling down. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer noted that the subject's speech was very slurred and that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. During the investigation, the subject stated that he might have left his ID at a local 6th Street bar but was not sure which one. The officer had to support the subject upright during the investigation to prevent him from falling. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-04-07, at 2:55 AM. 2300 BLOCK LAKE AUSTIN BLVD Criminal Mischief: A UT police officer discovered that an unknown subject had used a cutting tool to puncture the right front tire of a marked police vehicle.
