CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 05-26-07 and Wednesday, 05-30-07. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft: A black Sony laptop computer was stolen from a secured 4th floor office. Loss value: $3,500.00. Occurred: between 5-25-07, at 7:30 PM and 5-26-07, at 8:00 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Harassment: A UT student reported receiving a number of harassing text messages and emails. During the investigation, the subject received 11 more harassing text messages. Occurred on 5-28-07, between 4:32 PM and 6: 22 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: Two coin-operated machines were discovered pried open and an unknown amount of feminine hygiene products and money were removed. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 5-29-07, at 12:17 AM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was observed exiting a restricted area located on the 4th floor of UTC. The subject quickly attempted to leave the area and was stopped as he exited the elevator on the 2nd floor. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was not a registered student or employed by the University of Texas. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that the subject had received several prior written criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-28-07, at 8:10 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A black Kia was observed blocking a traffic lane. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer noted that the driver's eyes were very bloodshot. As the investigation continued, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-27-07, at 3:00 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed two non-UT subjects involved in a brief fisticuffs. During the investigation, the police officers separated both combatants. As the investigation continued, one combatant continued to exchange "heated" words and refused to stop. The police officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. Due to her aggressive behavior, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-28-07, at 2:10 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Driving While License Invalid: A white Honda was observed running a red light at the intersection of MLK and San Jacinto Blvd. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned that the driver was operating a motor vehicle with an invalid driver’s license. The subject’s driver’s license had been suspended 12 days earlier. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While License Invalid and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-29-07, at 1:30 AM. 1800 BRAZOS STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed having an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. A second subject was observed standing near the first subject watching. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of both subjects. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that both subject's were under the legal drinking age of 21. Both subjects were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 5-26-07, at 3:01 AM. 2100 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated / Open Alcoholic Container Enhancement: A green Jeep was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and was observed committing additional traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and observed that the driver would stare straight ahead with a blank look on his face. As the investigation, continued, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed enough clues that indicated that he was intoxicated and was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. During a search of the subject’s vehicle, the officer discovered several open bottles of bourbon whiskey. The driver was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-28-07, at 2:50 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering and swaying back and forth as he attempted to walk along a straight sidewalk. The subject was observed walking behind a row of bushes. When stopped the subject attempted to stagger run away. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that the subject was incoherent when he attempted to talk. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 5-26-07, at 4:03 AM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the west side of Walter Webb Hall next to a sign stating that the property belonged to the University of Texas. During the investigation, the officer soon learned that the subject had received two prior written criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-29-07, at 2:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 158 alarm calls, 12 suspicious persons calls, 7 medical calls, 2 collision reports, and 35 unsecured buildings between 05-25-07 and 05-30-07.
