CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 06-26-07 and Wednesday, 06-27-07. COMMONS BUILDING, 10100 Burnet Road Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member discovered a door to the walk-in cooler unsecured after insuring the area was secured prior to leaving for the weekend. Occurred between: 6-16-07, at 5:00 PM and 6-18-07, at 4:00 PM. COMMONS BUILDING, 10100 Burnet Road Theft: An Apple iPod was reported stolen after being placed into a Lost and Found cabinet. The former owner had forgotten the property inside an auditorium during a conference. Loss value: Unknown. Occurred between: 5-18-07 and 6-26-07. ENGINEERING TEACHING CENTER, 204 East Dean Keeton Theft: A bronze colored K2 mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building. The former owner stated that he had secured his property with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 6-26-07, between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. PENICK-ALLISON TENNIS COURTS, 1701 Trinity Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the top level of the complex, behind the elevators. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 6-26-07, at 10:50 PM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT police officer heard a vehicle car alarm sounding on the 5th level of the parking garage. Upon investigating the alarm, the officer observed an unidentified subject standing in the northwest portion of the garage near some broken glass. The unknown subject turned and ran from the area. The officer was unable to stop the subject. As the investigation continued, the officer contacted the owner of the burglarized vehicle, a 2003 Nissan. The owner did not discover any missing property. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, late 20s to early 40s, 185 pounds, with short hair. The subject was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and grey / green pants. Crime Prevention Tip: The officer did not provide a description of any visible property that was inside this vehicle. A thief will not take a chance to randomly break into a vehicle to see what they can find. Keep all of your personal property hidden inside your vehicle, loose change, CDs, textbooks, as well as cellular telephones and radar detectors. Remember, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind." WILL C. HOGG BUILDING, #2 East Mall Suspicious Person: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject attempting to gain entry into the Hogg Building by pulling on the exterior doors located on the south side of the building. During the investigation, the officers were unable to locate the unknown subject after searching the area. The unknown subject was described as: White male, very slim in stature. The subject was last seen wearing a button-down plaid shirt and dark colored pants. Occurred on: 6-27-07, at 4:48 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed two UT students arguing inside a parked vehicle. After separating both subjects, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on one of the student's breath. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered that the student was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 6-27-07, at 1:41 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: In many reported assaults, alcohol is the major contributing factor. Alcohol tends to lower our inhibitions as well as our tolerances, allowing us to get into assaultive type behavior. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to navigate between the navigational beacons (sidewalk and curb) while maintaining his balance. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officers also noted that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and blurry. As the investigation continued, the officers determined that the subject was a clear danger to himself as well as to others. The lead officer attempted to release the subject to his girlfriend and her parents. The subject became combative and verbally abusive towards the officers. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-27-07, at 2:08 AM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed on a church porch. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer noted that the subject's eyes were blurry and bloodshot. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-27-07, at 12:10 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 49 alarm calls, 2 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons reports, 1 medical call, and 8 unsecured buildings between 06-26-07 and 06-1-27-07.
