CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 06-29-07 and Monday, 07-02-07. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd. Criminal Mischief: A UT student grabbed a cellular telephone from another UT student and threw it to the floor, breaking it. The victim stated that the suspect has been harassing her after she refused to date him. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 6-20-07. MANOR PARKING GARAGE, 2017 Robert Dedman Drive Criminal Mischief: After several failed attempts to exit the Manor Parking Garage, a non-UT subject was observed exiting his vehicle and forcing the traffic control arm up. This action broke the control arm. The subject then attempted to exit the garage through another exit and was stopped. During the investigation, the subject stated that his garage access card was not working properly. Charges are pending. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 6-30-07, at 11:24 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area of the Academic Center. During the investigation, the subject stated that he was waiting for a friend. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the subject was not a current UT student or UT employee. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-02-07, at 3:52 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A Kia was observed traveling north bound in the 2000 Block of San Jacinto at a high rate of speed. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The non-UT driver denied that he had consumed any alcohol while at a local 6th Street bar. As the investigation continued, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver did not display enough clues that would indicate that he was intoxicated. The officer discovered, during the investigation, that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The subject's vehicle was impounded. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the officer discovered that the non-UT passenger had also been consuming alcoholic beverages. The passenger was identified as being under the legal and was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 7-02-07, at 2:15 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out inside a vehicle with the engine running. During the investigation, the officer was able to wake the subject up. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject denied that he had been consuming any alcohol while at his friend's house. As the investigation continued, the subject was unaware of where he was, the time of day, and the current date. The officer noted that the subject could not maintain his balance when walking or turning. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-01-07, at 4:08 AM. 500 BLOCK LAVACA STREET Public Intoxication (2 Counts): UT police officers responded to a report of a subject passed out in the middle of the roadway. Upon arrival, the officers observed one non-UT subject attempting to maintain his balance while sitting on the curb. A second non-UT subject was observed lying in the road. The first subject pointed at the second and stated, "He's drunk." The officers moved the second subject out of the road and asked him if he could sit up. The subject replied, "Nope." During the investigation, both subjects had difficulty remaining conscious and alert. Austin EMS was called to the scene to treat both subjects for alcohol poisoning. Both subjects were transported to a local area hospital for further treatment for alcohol poisoning. Occurred on: 6-30-07, at 3:10 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 129 alarm calls, 5 suspicious activity calls, 4 suspicious persons reports, 3 medical calls, and 14 unsecured buildings between 06-29-07 and 07-02-07.
