Report for 07/12/2007

CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 07-11-07 and Thursday, 07-12-07. * * * * * SCAM ALERT * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department has received information that a person(s) is calling people and representing themselves as being part of the University of Texas Department of Psychology. This person tells the individual that he/she is doing research on people that are in a romantic relationship. This is a SCAM. The University of Texas Police Department would like to inform the public that if a person calls, telling you that they are with the University of Texas Department of Psychology and wants to conduct a survey over the telephone, it is probably not someone from the University of Texas. The Department of Psychology does most, if not all, of its Human Subject Research in person, NOT over the telephone. If you have any questions on whether the Department of Psychology is conducting a particular type of research, call the Research Coordinator at (512) 232-4269. SUTTON HALL, 210 West 21st Street Theft: A silver Marin mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northwest side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred between: 7-10-07, at 8:30 AM and 7-11-07, at 8:30 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: An Apple Macbook laptop computer was stolen after the student fell asleep inside a third floor study lounge. The student awoke to discover an unknown female pulling on his computer case that he was using as a foot prop while sleeping. The unknown female grabbed the laptop computer and ran from the building. The unknown female was last seen running at a high rate of speed across Guadalupe. She was described as: White female, 19 years of age, with shoulder-length blond hair pulled back into a ponytail. She was last seen wearing blue Capri jeans and a black midriff shirt. Loss value: $1,389.00. Occurred on: 7-11-07, at 10:47 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Criminals are always looking for an opportunity to commit a theft. Sleeping in a public area provides that opportunity. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons reports, 1 medical call, and 7 unsecured buildings between 07-11-07 and 7-12-07. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime.
