CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 07-27-07 and Monday, 07-30-07. * * * * * BOLO * * * * * Theft Suspect: The University of Texas Police Department is currently investigating two laptop computer thefts that occurred inside the Texas Union. The suspect is described as: White female, 19 to 25 years of age, with shoulder length curly blond hair, worn in a ponytail. She is described as "very attractive." She was last seen wearing black colored clothing. If you have seen this subject, contact the University of Texas Police Department at: 512-471-4441. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A twenty dollar bill was reported stolen from a bag after being left unattended. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred on: 7-28-07, between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered "resting" on the north side of the building. The officer determined that the subject was not a current student or staff member. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-29-07, at 8:05 PM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was not a current student or staff member. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-28-07, at 1:30 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered sitting on the ground having an extreme physical reaction to the over-consumption of alcohol. The officers learned that the subject had been celebrating his 21st birthday. The subject did not know how much he had consumed, but stated, "Too Much!" Austin EMS was contacted and treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning. The subject was transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 7-29-07, at 2:40 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Turning 21 is a great milestone in life. That milestone does not need to turn into a tombstone. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject approached a UT staff member and asked him for money. The staff member contacted the UT police department. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject had received three prior criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-27-07, at 4:39 PM. 500 BLOCK EAST 20th ½ STREET Driving While Intoxicated (Open Alcoholic Container): A Dodge truck was observed driving erratically through a parking lot and along a sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer observed the non-UT driver staggering as he attempted to exit his truck and shut the door. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver's eyes were bloodshot and glassy in appearance. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver was unable to complete the tests due to his intoxication level. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. During the investigation, the officer observed an open 12-oz. can of beer in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The DWI charge was enhanced due to the open container. Occurred on: 7-29-07, at 8:42 PM. 500 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Driving While Intoxicated / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A black Hummer was observed traveling left of center and crossing a solid yellow line. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer asked the driver where they were coming from. The driver told the officer that they were coming from Target store. The passenger leaned over and told the officer that they actually coming from a local downtown bar. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver was unable to complete the tests due to his intoxication level. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. The passenger was found to be under the legal age of 21 and had also been drinking alcohol at a local downtown bar. The passenger was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 7-29-07, at 3:15 AM. 1700 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A red Dodge truck was observed committing several traffic violations. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The non-UT driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-30-07, at 2:54 AM. 2200 BLOCK RED RIVER Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed two subjects sitting in the backseat of a vehicle. The passenger informed the officer that the driver had walked away. During the investigation, the driver returned to the scene and informed the officer that she had hit a curb and damaged her car. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the driver had two outstanding outside agency warrants. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-28-07, at 2:44 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Assist Outside Agency: A white Mazda truck was observed running through an intersection that is controlled by a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned that the driver had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-27-07, at 8:45 PM. 2600 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (4 Counts): Three UT students and two non-UT subjects were stopped inside a silver Suzuki that was traveling at a high rate of speed through campus. During the traffic stop, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. The driver was asked to step out and away from the vehicle. The officer could not detect any odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer located the source of the odor of alcohol. The officer determined all of the passengers had been drinking at a local downtown bar. All four passengers were issued court appearance citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The three UT students also received a written referral to appear before the Dean of Student's office. Occurred on: 7-30-07, at 1:44 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 143 alarm calls, 11 suspicious activity calls, 7 suspicious persons reports, and 11 unsecured buildings between 07-27-07 and 7-30-07.
