As time gets shorter the "to do" list grows longer, now is a good time for a few reminders: Today's To Do List After double checking to make sure that everything is ready to go, take some time and relax. To Do List 8-23-07 Bicycle thefts have always been a problem at any college campus. There are several things that can be done to lessen the threat of theft. Look at incorporating a two lock locking system. The primary lock will be a U-shaped lock that uses a flat key, not a rounded key. The secondary lock is a self-locking cable lock. This will require the thief to use two different tools in order to steal your bicycle. Please go to the Kryptonite web site and look at the different security ratings given to the various locks. The higher the security rating, the harder the lock will be to defeat. After choosing your locks, please go to the UT Parking and Transportation web site a register your daughter’s bike on line. Most of the bicycle manufactures stamp the serial numbers in the sprocket of the bike. Huff serial numbers will be found on the yoke and American Free Spirit serial numbers will be found on the support brace near the rear tire. To Do List 8-21-07 Parking will also be a problem and many cars will be parked for long periods of time. Remember to remove all personal items from your vehicle. Items like pocket change, backpacks, textbooks, CDs, and the always reliable radar detector. These items tend to attract auto burglars. To Do List 8-07-07 Identity Theft is a big problem; do everything you can to restrict all of your son's or daughter's personal information when applying for credit or filling out any other financial paperwork. There are many different scams in which thieves attempt to obtain personal information in this manner. Limit the number of credit cards carried, one gas card and one credit card. Write either C. I. D. or simply request ID on the backs of all credit cards. Have your student secure their Social Security Card inside their dormitory room or apartment. Encourage them to never carry this card unless applying for a job. To Do List 8-06-07 Go online and sign up for the FREE women's self defense class. This is a free 16-hour class offered through the UT police department. www.utexas.edu/police/rad/register.php
