WELCOME BACK The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) welcomes each of you back to campus for another great semester. I hope you all safely survived the summer and are now settling into your respective campus routines. This semester UTPD is setting the mark high for reducing campus crime. A first step in that effort is to make sure each of you is aware of the services and crime prevention activities our command staff, patrol officers, and support services offer. I invite each of you to visit http://www.utexas.edu/police/ or http://www.utexas.edu/police/prevention/presentations.html for more information on any of the UTPD services and programs listed below: Property engraving Defensive driving classes Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)-a women’s self-defense class Drug and alcohol awareness classes Classes for dealing with workplace violence These services are offered free of charge to university faculty, staff, and students. Contact the UT Police Department at (512) 471-4441 or come by our office located at 2201 Robert Dedman Drive if you are interested in any of these activities. We are a community and as a community we can all work together to reduce crime on this campus. One of the best ways we work together is by keeping each other informed. Criminals rely on the fact that not everyone knows what events transpire on or around campus. On a regular basis, UTPD posts information about crime in an e-mail called Campus Watch. If you want to stay informed, subscribe to Campus Watch at http://www.utexas.edu/police/campuswatch/subscribe.php In short, we encourage you to be proactive about your safety and informed about your community. As always, UTPD is here to respond to any emergency you may have (call 911). We hope you have a safe and happy semester.
