CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 08-29-07and Thursday, 08-30-07. Correction: Please note that there is a $25.00 charge for the Defensive Driving course offered by the University of Texas Police Department. There was an error that stated that this course was free, which was posted in the Campus Watch 8-27-07 through 8-29-07. New Service Available: Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ANDREWS DORMITORY, 2401 Whitis Ave Theft: A blue Trek SU200 mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $550.00. Occurred: between 8-28-07, at 10:00 PM and 8-29-07, at 8:30 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A 1GB memory stick was stolen from a computer after being after unattended inside a first floor computer lab. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred on: 8-28-07, at 6:28 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: There are three things that need to take place in order for a thief to commit a crime, desire, ability, and opportunity. There is nothing that can be done to remove the desire or ability for a thief to commit a crime. When we can do, as a community, is remove or limit a thief's opportunity to commit a crime. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 san Antonio Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping under the northeast stairs. During the investigation, the subject was issued a criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 8-29-07, at 7:20 PM. 1800 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed standing on the north side of the Bob Bullock Museum attempting to relieve himself. During the investigation, the officer learned that the student had been at a Lambda fraternity party. The officer discovered that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, along with a referral to the Dean of Students. Occurred on: 8-30-07, at 1:20 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: I spoke with the Student Government representative that is currently in charge of SURE WALK. I am happy to announce that SURE WALK is now available for students that would like an escort back to their dormitory, car, or to their apartment. Sure Walk escorts are available Monday through Friday 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM from Gregory Gym, Perry Castaneda Library, and the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 72 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 3 suspicious persons reports, and 6 unsecured buildings between 8-29-07 and 8-30-07.
