CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 08-30-07 and Tuesday, 09-04-07. BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A Nike backpack containing a Fossil wallet, several credit cards, and personal identification, was stolen from a 10th floor classroom after being left unattended. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 8-31-07, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. APPLIED COMPUTATIONAL & ENGINEERING SCIENCE BUILDING, 201 East 24th Street Theft: An Art Deco painting was stolen from inside a ground floor women's restroom. Loss value: $650.00 Occurred between: 8-14-07, at 8:00 AM and 8-31-07, at 2:33 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Assault on a Public Servant / Resisting Arrest / Attempting to Take Weapon from Police Officer: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to bring alcohol into the football stadium. The subject became argumentative towards the police officer after being told that he was in violation and was being ejected from the stadium. The subject grabbed an officer in a headlock and began fighting. Several officers came to the aid of the officer involved in the fight. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 6:29 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Assault: A non-UT subject was observed pushing his way through the crowd in a vain attempt to enter into the stadium. Another non-UT subject observed the subject push a female patron to the ground as he made his way towards the front of the line. During the investigation, the officers identified the aggressive patron, but were unable to locate the female patron who had been pushed to the ground. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 5:40 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Minor in Possession of Alcohol: A UT student was observed attempting to enter into the stadium with a concealed flask strapped to the side of his leg. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21 and issued a citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 7:55 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Evading Arrest: A UT student was observed attempting to enter the stadium carrying a bottle containing an alcoholic beverage. The subject then attempted to run into the stadium after being told to stop. The subject continued to run, but was stopped by another officer working in a different section. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking for Evading Arrest. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 6:18 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT was observed stumbling out of a hedgerow. The officer saw that the subject was having difficulty maintaining his balance. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot. The subject did not know where he was. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 5:17 PM. D.K. ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out near gate 27. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his reactions were slow or delayed. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 7:30 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a subject, wearing ear buds, expressing his first amendment rights. The subject was raising his middle fingers above his head. The officer watched as the subject then made a clenched fist and continued his directed improvisations towards another police officer. The subject then left the area, unaware of the second officer watching him. Both officers stopped the subject and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The officers learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The officer noted that the subject's ear buds were not plugged into his portable stereo. As the investigation continued, the subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 3:10 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public intoxication: A UT staff member observed a non authorized UT student attempt to enter into a restricted dormitory. The subject ran away, then returned and followed another authorized student into the dormitory. During the investigation, the officers were able to locate the subject on the second floor. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The intoxicating elixir affected the subject's memory. The subject did not remember following another student into the dormitory. And the subject could not remember his name or date of birth. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 1:56 AM. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Street Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed wandering the 5th floor hallways barefooted. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 2:00 PM. NURSING SCHOOL, 1710 Red River Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject entered the Nursing School believing he was at the Coliseum in Lubbock Texas. During the investigation, the officers soon discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 1:14 PM. ROBERTS DORMITORY, 303 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: Two subjects were observed sitting on a table as a third subject was vomiting. As the officer approached one subject ran away. During the investigation, the officer noted that the subject vomiting was sweating profusely and was having difficulty speaking. The officer learned that the student had consumed between 10 and 15 beers at an unknown fraternity. Austin EMS treated the student at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital for alcohol poisoning. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 3:45 AM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Ave. Criminal Mischief: The right rear window of a Honda was discovered shattered. The officer was unable to contact the owner, and could not determine if any property was missing from the vehicle. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-01-07, at 7:19 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed three subjects attempting to avoid the effects of gravity by providing support to each other. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of one of the student's breath. The officer learned that they were returning from a local downtown bar where one UT student had gotten 10 shots of alcohol. The officer noticed that the subject was having difficulty remaining awake. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and rushed him to a local area hospital for alcohol poisoning. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 2:24 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed assaulting another non-UT subject with a closed fist. A UT staff member observed the subject strike the female several times. During the investigation, the suspect was defiant and ignored the officer's commands. The subject was taken into custody. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 1:49 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A grey Nissan was observed traveling at a high rate of speed with its headlamps turned off. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol and the aroma of peppermint that was being used to mask the alcohol. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the non-UT driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated that he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 12:25 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 149 alarm calls, 20 suspicious activity calls, 10 suspicious persons reports, 3 medical emergency calls, and 16 unsecured buildings between 8-30-07 and 9-04-07.
