CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 09-04-07 and Wednesday, 09-05-07. D.K. ROYAL TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to enter into the stadium carrying a can of beer in his hand. Upon being told that he was being ejected from the stadium, the subject stated that he was a season ticket holder and was not leaving. He then wanted to bet the officer as to "who would be leaving and who would be staying." The subject was escorted from the stadium, the officer continued to work the assigned section. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 5:45 PM. D.K. ROYAL TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered stumbling as he attempted to enter the southeast entrance to the football stadium. The subject was unable to stand without support. During the investigation, the student attempted to “call a friend” to avoid being arrested. The student informed the officers that he had a prior arrest for Public Intoxication. After failing to contact his friend, the student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 6:30 PM. D.K. ROYAL TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): A UT student was observed attempting to maintain a straight heading as she stumbled and weaved back and forth. During the investigation, the student presented the officer with her current UT ID but not her driver’s license. Through slurred words, the student informed the officer that she had not been drinking any alcohol. A second student staggered into the officer as he was conducting his investigation. As the investigation continued, the first student was released to her father after receiving a citation for Public Intoxication. The second subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 5:25 PM. D.K. ROYAL TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed passing a current UT ID to another individual standing outside the entrance gate. During the investigation, the UT student wanted to argue with the officers. During her argument the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol the subject’s breath. As the investigation continued, the officers learned that the student was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming an adult beverage. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 6:00 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A blue tri-fold wallet containing $10.00 was removed and stolen from an unsecured backpack. The backpack was left unattended inside a first floor cardio workout room. Loss value: $15.00. Occurred on: 9-03-07, between 5:05 PM and 6:53 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: I have stated in the past that a thief needs to have three things in place in order to commit a crime. Thieves are as vigilant looking for an opportunity as we are in preventing that opportunity. The Division of Rec Sports, in an effort to remove a thief’s opportunity to steal, has installed day use lockers. These lockers are located inside both male and female locker rooms. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A red and white Schwinn road bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-01-07, at 4:00 PM and 9-04-07, at 1:17 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred between: 9-03-07, at 4:00 PM and 9-04-07, at 4:23 PM. PATTERSON LABS, 2415 Speedway Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member observed two unknown subjects walking the hallway looking into offices. During the investigation, the area was searched with negative results. The first unknown subject was described as: White male, 6'-0", and was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. The second unknown subject was described as: White male with a dark complexion. Occurred on: 9-04-07, at 9:50 AM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was not a current student or staff member. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-04-07, at 5:08 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Antonio Street Suspicious Person: An unknown subject approached a UT staff member and made several incomprehensible comments. After making the comments, the unknown subject then started chasing the staff member as he drove away in his vehicle. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. The unknown subject was described as: White male, with lots of facial hair. The unknown subject was last seen wearing an earth-tone T-shirt and blue jeans. Occurred on: 8-31-07, at 1:12 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A blue Fuji road bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred between: 9-03-07, at 7:00 PM and 9-04-07, at 6:15 PM. SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT police officers responded to Simkins Dormitory on a report of burning marijuana. During the investigation, the officers discovered a UT student who had a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-03-07, at 2:30 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: An HP laptop computer and an Apple iPod were stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor room after being left unattended. Loss value: $2,500.00. Occurred on 9-04-07, at 11:28 AM. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTERATIVE BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the north side of the building. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject was not a current student or staff member. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-04-07, at 12:20 AM. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Suspicious Person: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject sleeping in the lobby of the building. The unknown subject saw the staff member and attempted to hide behind a chair. The staff member left the area quickly and contacted the police. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. The unknown subject was described as: male, last seen wearing a grey shirt, jeans and a fitted black cap. Occurred on: 9-05-07, at 12:50 AM. 1900 BLOCK TRINITY STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A black Chevy truck entered into a closed and barricaded street. During the traffic investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and noted that his eyes were glazed. During the investigation, the officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the non-UT driver. The driver displayed a number of clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 9:15 PM. 2000 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to establish his own business at UT by re-selling football tickets. The subject was told to leave the University by several unidentified UT employees. The subject was again observed re-selling tickets. During the investigation, the officers established the fact that the subject was not authorized to solicit in accordance with University of Texas Regent's rule. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-012-07, at 3:25 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The University of Texas Board of Regents established a policy (6.201) that prohibits the unauthorized solicitation on campus. This includes ticket scalping. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: Underneath her parked vehicle, a UT staff member discovered a UT student passed out. The student had a very hard time extracting himself from beneath the vehicle. During the investigation, the officer noted that the student had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and had difficulty maintaining his balance. The officer discovered that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken the student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 6:10 PM. 2700 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed bent over a railing creating a Nickelodeon "Splash Zone". During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student's breath and learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-01-07, at 1:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 56 alarm calls, 4 suspicious activity calls, 3 suspicious persons reports, 2 medical emergency calls, and 5 unsecured buildings between 9-04-07 and 9-05-07.
