CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 09-07-07 and Monday, 09-10-07. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is now excepting applications for the 3rd UT Citizen Police Academy. The academy will begin in October 2007. For more information please contact Capt. Don Verett at don.verett@austin.utexas.edu DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was discovered attempting to conceal a 200 ml. bottle of vodka in his pants pocket. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject was under the legal drinking age. The student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 6:30 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to conceal a metal flask in his pants pocket. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the flask contained an alcoholic beverage. The officer learned that the subject was under the legal drinking age to be in possession of alcohol. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 8:35 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication / Possession of Multiple Driver's License: A UT student was detained after making several crude comments to several females wearing dresses. During the investigation the student handed the officer a valid driver's license, but the subject in the photograph did not look like the student presenting the DL. As the subject removed the driver's license from his wallet several credit cards fell to the ground. The officer noticed that the name on the cards did not match the name on the license. As the investigation continued, the officer took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search, the officer discovered the subjects true identify. The student was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 8:30 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject that matched the description of a theft suspect. The subject was riding a black Specialized mountain bicycle on the sidewalk. The subject was stopped and during the investigation, the student stated that the bicycle was his but refused to answer any questions about the bike. As the investigation continued, the officers located the owner of the bike. The non-UT subject was taken into custody for theft and transported to Central Booking. During a search of the subject, the officers discovered that the subject was in possession of a pair of bolt cutters as well as a cut self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00 (recovered). Occurred on: 9-10-07, at 3:35 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Hungry? The UT Police Department has a program called Hungry for Justice. The police department will purchase you a pizza of your choice if you observe suspicious activity in or around the bike racks. If your telephone call leads to the apprehension or arrest of a bike thief, the pizza is on us. You're on your own obtaining the beer. 100 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering and swaying back and forth as she attempted to cross a street into oncoming traffic. With catlike reflexes the officer was able to stop the vehicle traffic and escort the subject to the safety of the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was attempting to call a friend and became disoriented. As the investigation continued, the officer released the subject to a friend. Charges are pending. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 3:36 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Theft: A silver Nikon digital camera was stolen after a UT student left the camera unattended. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 9-07-07, between 5:40 PM and 5:45 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed a non-UT fall into oncoming traffic. Several bystanders assisted the subject to his feet and out of the path of traffic. The subject attempted to stagger and sway his was down the sidewalk. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he had not fallen, but had in fact been shoved into the street. As the investigation continued, the officer noted that the subject could not maintain his balance and had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 2:35 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to follow his navigational beacons, the curb line and roadway, without falling as he approached two UT police officers. The subject was very talkative but his words were very slurred. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot. The subject posed a danger to himself as well as to others. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 12:14 AM. 300 BLOCK DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication (2 Counts): Two UT students were discovered passed out in what can only be described as "The Splash Zone." Both subjects were dry heaving and continued to dry heave after being awakened by the police officers. During the investigation, Austin EMS treated both subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning and where transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. Occurred on: 9-09-07, at 3:23 AM 600 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Theft: A silver Pentax digital camera was stolen after being left unsecured inside an unsecured vehicle. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 9-06-07, between 3:20 PM and 3:55 PM. 600 BLOCK WEST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A silver Nissan was observed running through a red light, forcing other vehicles to avoid a collision by stopping. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that the non-UT driver was dressed to impress, by wearing the contents of his stomach on the front of his shirt. During the investigation, the officer noted that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. Upon exiting his vehicle, the driver needed the support of his vehicle to keep from falling. The officer attempted to administer the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. Due to the intoxication level of the driver, the driver could not demonstrate the tests. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 3:20 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A black SUV was observed committing several traffic violations in the course of two blocks. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The UT student driver informed the officer that she and her passenger had attended a party in the West Campus area, but they had not been drinking any "adult beverages." During the investigation, the officer issued the driver a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. As the investigation continued, the officer detected the odor on alcohol on both passengers. Both UT student passengers were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 1:20 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication / Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was discovered laying halfway onto a sidewalk and half way into the roadway. The officer was able to wake the subject. The subject attempted to stand up but fell flat, all the time telling the officer that he was "ok." The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject and noted that the subject's purple shirt was covered in dirt, leaves, and grass. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search of the subject, the officers discovered a clear plastic baggie that contained a green leafy substance that the officer recognized as marijuana. The subject was transported to Central Booking on two separate charges. Occurred on: 9-08-07, at 2:16 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 114 alarm calls, 7 suspicious activity calls, 9 suspicious persons reports, 5 medical emergency call, and 15 unsecured buildings between 9-07-07 and 9-10-07.
