CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 09-18-07 and Wednesday 09-19-07. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is now accepting applications for the 3rd UT Citizen Police Academy. The academy will begin in October 2007. For more information please contact Capt. REGISTRATION DEADLINE is September 24, 2007 PENICK-ALLISON TENNIS CENTER, 1701 Trinity Ave Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member discovered, what appeared to be a transient camp site under the bleachers on the east side of the tennis courts. Discovered on: 9-18-07, at 1:37 PM PENICK-ALLISON TENNIS CENTER, 1701 Trinity Ave Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area. During the investigation, the officers soon discovered that the subject had been issued several prior criminal trespass warnings for various areas around campus. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-19-07, at 12:52 AM. W. C. HOGG BUILDING, #2 East Mall Suspicious Person: A UT student observed an unknown subject loitering inside the bike racks located on the east side of the building. When the unknown subject became aware that he was being watched, the subject left a written note on a bicycle. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 5'-07", dark buzz-cut hair, with pale skin. The subject was last seen wearing blue knee-length shorts, and a black jacket. The responding officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the subject. Occurred on: 9-18-07, at 10:05 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed displaying a degree of difficulty maintaining his balance. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer learned that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor along with a referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-19-07, at 2:15 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: There has been some interest generated surrounding the recent scam alert that was posted in the Campus Watch on 9-07-07. I have received the following information to help answer some of the questions about avoiding becoming a victim of this type of scam. If you answer "YES" to any of the following questions, you may be getting SCAMMED! Answer the following questions: Are you about to cash a check from an item you sold on the internet? Is it the result of communicating with someone by email? Did it arrive via an overnight delivery service? Is it from a business or individual account this is different from the person buying your item or product? Is the amount for more than the item's selling price? Are you sending money overseas? Did you win an international lottery that you did not enter? Have you been asked to pay money to receive an inheritance from another country? Are you receiving a commission for accepting money transfers through your bank account and / or Pay Pal account? To report an online crime contact your local police department or go to: www.1c3.gov CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 74 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 3 suspicious persons reports, 2 medical emergency call, and 3 unsecured buildings between 9-18-07 and 9-19-07.
