CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 09-21-07 and Monday, 09-24-07. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas Police Department is now accepting applications for the 3rd UT Citizen Police Academy. REGISTRATION DEADLINE is September 24, 2007 Today is the Last Day to register for the UTPD CPA BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the front driver's side window of a black Mazda broken out. During the investigation the officers noted an unknown stereo appeared to be missing. The officers were unable to contact the registered owner of the Mazda. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-23-07, at 9:16 PM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Theft: An unknown subject had removed the DVD/RW/CD driver from a departmental computer located inside a secured fifth floor office. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 9-22-07, at 12:01 PM and 9-23-07, at 1:29 PM. CLAUDIA TAYLOR HALL, 210 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the east side of the building blocking egress in and out of the building. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a criminal trespass warning and escorted him from the property. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 11:55 PM. COLORADO BUILDING, 702 Colorado Street Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping behind several protective pipes on top of two cardboard boxes. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subject had several outstanding outside agency warrants for Failure to Appear. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 3:40 AM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to enter the stadium with a flask containing Crown Royal. During the investigation, it was learned that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, as well as a written referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 6:30 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to enter the stadium with a flask containing Vodka. During the investigation, the officers learned that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor as well as a written referral to the Dena of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-22-07 at 6:15 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed having a difficult time standing up and walking. The subject was being supported by an unidentified female. When the subject was stopped, the fair-weather friend disappeared into the crowd. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer soon learned that the subject was under the legal drinking age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation along with a written referral to the Dena of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 6:35 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to enter the stadium with a flask containing rum. During the investigation, the officers learned that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor as well as a written referral to the Dena of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-22-07 at 5:50 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): Two UT students were being disruptive while attending the UT football game. One subject was directing his wordsmithing ability towards several fans from the visiting team. During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on both students breath. The officers then located a makeshift flask that contained Coke and bourbon in their possession. Both students were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor as well as a written referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 8:00 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: A green Workhorse golf cart containing a case of brownies was stolen from the east side of the stadium. Loss value: $1,090.00. Occurred on: 9-22-07, between 8:00 PM and 8:10 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A wallet containing between $20.00 and $30.00 along with three gift cards was stolen from inside gym bag that was left unattended next to the basketball courts. Prior to notifying the police department of the theft, the victim located his wallet inside the men's locker room. As the investigation continued, the officer learned about a suspect that had been seen in the area prior to the theft. As the officer was talking to the victim, the suspect walked back into the gym. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned that the suspect, a UT student, had two outstanding warrants. The suspect was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-21-07, at 6:28 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A brown backpack containing an iPod Nano, several credit cards, a black leather wallet, and a Samsung cellular telephone was stolen from an unsecured locker located inside a second floor weight room. Loss value: Loss Value$ 325.00. Occurred on: 9-20-07, between 8:05 AM and 9:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The lockers that are located inside the weight rooms are designed to be rented out on a limited basis. During the past couple of years a number of thefts have occurred in these areas. Many victims informed the officer that they felt that they could watch their property while working out. An unsecured locker creates the opportunity that a thief is looking for. For a Thief, It’s Like Hide –n- See JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out inside the south lobby area. During the investigation, it was determined that the subject had consumed 10 drinks while at a local downtown drinking establishment. Austin EMS was notified and treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning. The subject was transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 3:30 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Mongoose was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured to the bike racks. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-16-07, at 2:32 PM and 9-23-07, at 3:03 PM. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right front passenger side window of a Honda was discovered broken out. During the investigation, the officer learned that a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo system had been stolen from the vehicle. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 9-07-07, at 9:00 PM and 9-23-07, at 10:24 AM. RUSSELL STEINDAM HALL, #7 East Mall Theft: Between 80 to 100 dollars was stolen from a wallet that was left unattended inside an unsecured 1st floor room. An unknown subject was seen in the area. The subject was described as: White male with red hair and freckles. Occurred on: 9-21-07, time unknown. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the north side of the building. During the investigation, the officers soon learned that the subject had received several prior criminal trespass warnings for the same area. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-21-07, at 10:15 PM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a UT student attempting to stagger across a busy street. The student was observed trying to stop a bus then pull on the hydraulic doors as if to board. When the subject saw the police officer, he attempted to run away. The subject was caught a very short distance away. During the investigation, the officer noted that the subject had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred his speech. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 10:20 PM. 200 BLOCK DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject activated the Emergency Callbox and requested assistance. Upon the arrival of the officers, the officers learned that another non-UT subject had approached the reporting person demanding cigarettes and a cellular telephone. When told "No", the subject started kicking a concert trashcan in an attempt to knock it over. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were glassy. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 11:04 PM. 300 BLOCK INNER CAMPUS DRIVE Possession of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Marijuana: A blue Nissan was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically. During the traffic investigation, the officer observed a clear plastic baggie that contained a green leafy substance. The marijuana was seized and the vehicle was searched. During the search, the officers discovered another baggie that contained psilocybin mushrooms. The driver was taken into custody for Possession of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Marijuana and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-20-07, at 10:00 PM. 1500 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A gold Honda was observed driving without its headlamps on. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer learned that the UT student / driver was under the legal drinking age of 21. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the three passengers had a moderate odor of alcohol on their breaths as well. All three were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 4:10 AM. 1800 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (4 Counts): A silver Chevy was observed parked in the parking lot of a local area business. The officers heard the occupants of the vehicle laughing and saw another occupant hanging his head out of the rear passenger's window. During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noted that he was under the legal drinking age of 21. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The officers also discovered that the passenger were also under the legal age of 21 and all four had a moderate odor of alcohol on their breaths as well. All four were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-23-07, at 2:41 AM. 2100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping in the roadway. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 3:38 AM. 2300 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering as he was walking along the sidewalk. The subject was observed "resting" next to the University of Texas Police Building. When the subject saw a police officer approaching, he made a gallant effort in his attempt to evade the police, but fell into a ditch. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 2:50 AM. 2300 BLOCK RED RIVER Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering while attempting to walk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and discovered that he was under the age of 21. The officer issued the subject a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to his father. Occurred on: 9-22-07, at 2:19 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 120 alarm calls, 8 suspicious activity calls, 5 suspicious persons reports, and 13 unsecured buildings between 9-21-07 and 9-24-07.
