CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 10-01-07 and Tuesday, 10-02-07. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed to be on the verge of passing out. During the investigation, the subject told the officer that he was overheated. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer learned that the subject was under the legal drinking age of 21. The officer escorted the subject to a medical aid station and the subject was evaluated. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 9-29-07, at 5:30 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A non-UT subject was observed standing in the aisle with a heavy item bulging from his left cargo pocket. During the investigation, the officers discovered that the heavy item was a 375 ml. bottle of Crown Royal. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned that the subject was under the legal age to be in possession of alcohol. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 9-29-07, at 3:10 PM. DKR-TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed standing at a 45 degree angle to a urinal with a "floppy flask" protruding from his unzipped shorts. During the investigation, the officer learned that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 9-29-07, at 2:30 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A non-UT subject was observed swinging a Wet Floor sign above his head while hitting several glass doors. During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and learned that he was a high school student and visiting UT for the weekend. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-30-07, at 2:40 AM. LITTLEFIELD CAFÉ, 201 West Dean Keeton Criminal Mischief / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject entered the men's restroom and defecated into a urinal, then ran out of the restroom before his paperwork was completed. During the investigation, the subject was located a short distance away. The subject informed the officer that he was unaware that his actions were criminal since he was not from around here. The subject was issued a field release citation for Criminal Mischief. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted off campus. Loss value: $35.00. Occurred on: 10-01-07, at 3:03 PM. PARKING LOT 116, 2901 North IH 35 Burglary of Motor Vehicle (2 Counts) / Criminal Mischief: Two UT students reported discovering their vehicles broken into. A third UT student reported the attempted burglary of his vehicle. During the investigation, the officers observed that a Sony AM / FM / CD stereo was stolen from a black Ford truck. Officers learned that an iPod radio adapter and digital link phone charger had been stolen from a blue Ford truck. The officers soon discovered that all of the exterior door locks on all three vehicles had been broken. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 9-29-07, between 6:55 AM and 7:00 PM. TEXAS SWIM CENTER, 1900 Red River Suspicious Person: An unknown subject approached a UT student and asked her to buy several newspapers. The student told the subject "No," and entered the swim center complex and reported the suspicious person to a staff member. Just as the staff member was about to notify the police department, the same subject entered the complex and asked to buy cigarettes from the staff member. The subject was told to leave. During the investigation, the officers were unable to locate the subject. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 6'-0", thin build, with blonde hair. The subject was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue paper shirt. Occurred on: 10-02-07, at 6:11 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a UT student being carried. During the investigation, the officer observed that the student had two large black Xs across the back of each of her hands and a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath. As the investigation continued, the officer verified that the student was under the legal drinking age of 21 and had been to a local downtown watering hole. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 9-30-07, at 2:38 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT student observed two other UT students sitting outside near a dormitory. One of the subjects appeared to be intoxicated. During the investigation, the officers located the two UT students and discovered that both students had been consuming adult beverages while under the legal drinking age of 21. Both students were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-30-07, at 4:13 AM. 900 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on a grassy knoll. The subject was very disoriented and confused as to where he was and who was with him. The subject believed that he was with his friend and that they were in Denton at UNT. During the investigation, the officers detected the odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 9-30-07, at 4:24 AM. 2300 BLOCK NORTH IH-35 Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed swaying back and forth as he attempted to maintain a straight heading north. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the subject was attempting to walk to another town after he became separated from his wife and friends. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-30-07, at 3:41 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: October is National Crime Prevention Month. I was surprised to discover that this is Cyber Security Awareness Month as well. The University of Texas ITS department would like to assist everyone with Cyber Security information: This week, October 1-5, ITS will focus on how to avoid phishing (fishing) scams and spyware in “I didn’t take the bait.” Cyber Security Tips of the Week - Don’t give out personal or financial information in e-mail or instant messages. - Be careful about opening attachments and downloading files. - Don’t use the “opt out” option on suspicious e-mails. - Think before you trust a Web site. - Use your bank and credit card statements to make sure no one but you has access to your money. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 14 alarm calls, 4 suspicious activity calls, 3 suspicious persons reports, 2 medical emergency calls, and 3 unsecured buildings between 10-01-07-07 and 10-02-07.
