Occurred on: 10-03-07, at 3:57 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: So far this semester, we have been discussing the importance of engraving your property and registering your bicycle with Parking and Transportation. Many times a police officer will come across property that is stolen, but they cannot prove the theft without being told about it. Most of the time, thieves are not only counting on us to provide them the opportunity to take our property, but they are betting we will not report it to the police. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: During the last home football game there were two reported thefts were the victims wallets were picked from a pocket. With the up-coming Red River Rivalry in Dallas UTPD would like to make everyone aware that these type of events creates the opportunities for a thief. The best protection for foiling pickpockets is to remove the opportunity of becoming a victim. - Pickpockets love crowds. Take precautions to protect your valuables. - Use a purse with a secure clasp. Keep the purse close to your body and your hand on the clasp. - Diversions such as loud arguments or commotions that may be staged to distract you while your pocket is picked. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons reports, and 4 unsecured buildings between 10-03-07 and 10-04-07. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime.
