In previous years, our department has received reports of aggress solicitors walking students to ATM machines or showing up inside the residence halls in order to meet sales quotas. I encourage anyone, who encounters any solicitor on campus to contact the UT Police Department, at 512-471-4441, and report the violation. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: There were a number of inquiries as to how the University of Texas was notifying both students and staff members about the incidents that occurred yesterday. There are several options available to the University Police as well as the University Officials in notifying the university community in non-emergency situations. The primary means of notification is through the university email system as well as the main University of Texas website. Another option that was utilized was the Longhorn Mobile Campus. This service is free and is offered to the entire University of Texas community as well as the general public. For more information about the alert system go longhorns.mobilecampus.com or contact UTPD crime prevention at 512-232-9634. Had either of these incidents been a campus wide emergency the University of Texas officials would have activated the UT siren system. This system would have either broadcasted a live message or simply sounded the siren. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 38 alarm calls, 13 suspicious activity calls, 15 suspicious persons reports, 2 medical emergency calls, and 14 unsecured buildings between 10-04-07 and 10-09-07. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
