Report for 10/24/2007

CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 10-23-07 and Wednesday, 10-24-07. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to utilize a well placed handrail in order to maintain his balance. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. As the investigation continued the subject refused to leave the event with a relative who was attempting to care for this intoxicated subject. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-23-07, at 9:22 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Burglary of Residences: A Dell laptop computer was stolen from a 7th floor dormitory room after the former owner left the dormitory room unsecured. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 10-24-07, at 2:50 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT staff member discovered all of the necessary accouterments had been stolen from a first floor men's restroom. Loss value: $123.00. Occurred: 10-23-07, between 2:20 AM and 8:30 AM. PARKING LOT 38, 2300 Block Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed looking into several parked vehicles and attempting to enter the vehicles by pulling on the door handles. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that his sister had entered Sid Richardson Hall and was currently shopping. As the investigation continued, the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-23-07, at 6:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: From the officer's report a reasonable person could assume that this individual was looking to burglarize a vehicle. The subject was window shopping, this is a stated fact. What personal property was visible inside these vehicles was not defined. By allowing others to see what we have stored in our vehicles creates an opportunity for a thief. Keep all personal property out of sight. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Block Red River Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered that an unknown subject had attempted to throw an object through a plate glass window. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 10-23-07, at 5:11 PM. TAYLOR HALL, #8 East Mall Theft: An Epson model 710 projector was stolen from a third floor classroom. The projector was secured with a metal cable and lock. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred between: 10-19-07, at 8:00 PM and 10-23-07, at 1:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: October is National Crime Prevention Month.
