During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted that he was sweating profusely. The subject became very combative towards the officers as they were escorted him from the building. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. During a medical evaluation at Central Booking, the jail nurse requested that the subject be transported to a local area hospital for a more extensive medical evaluation. The officers learned that the subject had ingested vodka, Jagermeister, and two "hits" of acid. At the hospital the subject was issued a field release citation for Public Intoxication and was released to hospital personnel. Occurred on: 11-14-07, at 9:48 PM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft: A silver Trek 4300 mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. JONES COMMUNICATION CENTER, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject bathing inside a 4th floor men's restroom. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Fraud: A UT student placed three items onto his Face Book page in order to sell them. The student received a response from a buyer. During the negotiations a set price was agreed upon. The buyer then informed the student that he was going to send "a little extra" to cover the cost of the shipping and to use another company to send any extra money back. When the student attempted to withdraw money from his bank account, he discovered his account was overdrawn. Loss value: $2,944.00. Occurred between: 11-05-07 to 11-14-07. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the second time this scam has appeared in the Campus Watch, this semester. In order for this scam to be successful, the seller must deposit the fraudulent check into their checking account and obtain a cashier's check or cash without waiting to see if the check is valid. The check or cash is then sent back to the buyer. The waiting period is the part of the scam that the con artist is trying to avoid. In order to get your money, the con artist is betting that you will not take the time to wait and see if the check will clear the banking system. When you don't, they gotcha. The other day, I was asked, why have these scams been around for so long? The reason is simple. Let's be honest, at times we are too trusting – or too greedy. J.J. "JAKE" PICKLE RESEARCH CENTER, 10,100 Burnet Road Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered, on two separate occasions, an unknown tool had been used to deflate her tires. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Reported on: 11-14-07, at 7:32 AM. WOOLRICH LABS, 210 East 24th Street Theft: A black and white Specialized mountain bicycle was stolen after being secured to a sign pole with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 11-14-07, between 12:01 PM and 2:30 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 reported alarms, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious persons reports, 2 medical emergency calls, 4 collision reports, and 3 unsecured buildings between 11-14-07 and 11-15-07.
