CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 02-04-08 and Tuesday, 02-05-08. Citizen Police Academy February 18 - April 7, 2008 The Citizen Police Academy is enrolling now! The academy provides a great opportunity to take an inside look at how police departments function, and it will give you a chance to learn how to assist local law enforcement and make yourself safer. Over the course of the program, you will visit a variety of units within The University of Texas at Austin Police Department and meet with officers who will teach you about criminal investigations, patrol procedures, special response teams, and much more. The Citizen Police Academy is open to the public, and will meet 6-9 p.m. on Mondays from February 18 - April 7. Enrollment is free, but space is limited, so download and complete an application (PDF) as soon as possible. The application submission deadline is February 11, 2007. CAROTHERS DORMITORY, 2501 Whitis Ave Theft: A silver Kona, Fire Mountain, mountain bicycle was stolen from the from a bicycle rack at either Carothers Dormitory or at Gregory Gym after being secured with a U-shaped bike lock. Loss value: $650.00. Occurred between: 12-11-07 and 1-29-08. ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT police officer discovered a non-UT subject inside a restricted area. During the investigation, the subject stated that he was currently a tutor. The subject was issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on 2-05-08, at 3:37 AM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed yelling and creating a disturbance during a scheduled event. During the investigation, the subject continued to amaze the gathering crowd with her two and three syllable wordsmithery. While communicating with the officers, the officers noted that the subject had a difficult time maintaining her balance. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-04-08, at 8:20 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Burglary: Two UT students reported the theft of personal items, gym shorts, football, headphones, and three chocolate bars from a secured 12th floor office. Loss value: $31.00. Occurred between: 2-03-08, at 5:00 PM and 2-04-08, at 11:51 AM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Burglary: A UT staff member reported the theft of personal items, suitcase, USB drive, stuffed animal, headphones, earplugs, and a flashlight from a secured 15th floor office. Loss value: $237.00. Occurred between: 2-03-08, at 2:00 PM and 2-04-08, at 9:00 AM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Burglary: A UT staff member discovered a pair of headphones and a one dollar bill was missing from a secured 15th floor office. Loss value: $5.00. Occurred between: 2-03-08, at 2:00 PM and 2-04-08, at 9:00 AM. 2600 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN DR Disorderly Conduct: A UT staff member reported that she had been verbally assaulted by an unknown subject. The staff member described the subject as a white male, tall with a thin build. The subject had long grey hair and was wearing a hoodie. During the investigation, the officers located a subject that matched the description. The subject was identified as another UT staff member. The subject stated that he had gotten upset because the victim had blocked the bus stop. The subject had asked her to move and began cursing at her while using a very demonstrative middle finger. The staff member was issued a field release citation for Disorderly Conduct- Abusive Language and was released at the scene. Occurred on: 2-04-08, at 7:30 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 10 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity calls, 2 suspicious person calls, 5 medical emergencies, and 5 unsecured door reports between 02-04-08 and 02-05-08.
