CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 03-28-08 and Tuesday, 04-01-08. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The Hungry for Justice program is paying dividends, last week a construction worker observed a non-UT subject enter into a construction site and start pilfering copper and construction tools. The construction workers quick actions and notification led to the arrest of a serial burglar. Congratulations to the Seimens construction crew. Job well done. ASHBEL SMITH HALL, 201 West 7th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside an established campsite located on the north side of the building. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and made him break camp and hit the trail. Occurred on: 4-01-08, at 4:07 AM. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 1900 Block Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered "hanging out" on the southwest side of the building setting up a campsite. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that she was here at UT to assist UT in locating a new president. She was disappointed to learn that the position had in fact been filed. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from campus. Occurred on: 4-01-08, at 1:00 AM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Theft: A Dell laptop computer was stolen from a secured 6th floor office. Loss value: $500.00 Occurred between: 3-27-08 and 3-31-08 COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd Theft: A Camelback backpack, bicycle pump, and a pair of bicycle shorts were stolen after the property had been left unattended outside and occupied apartment. Loss value: $195.00. Occurred on: 3-28-08, between 2:15 PM and 6:00 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Theft: A brown Coach purse containing $145.00 in cash and various forms of personal ID was reported stolen during an event. During the investigation, the officer learned that the victim, due to the theft, was stranded and unable to get back home. The officer then made arrangements to get the victim home safely. Loss value: $225.00. Occurred on: 3-29-08. GRADUATE & INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS, 2608 Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping between the exterior wall of the building and a planter box in a make shift camp. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted her from the area. Occurred on: 4-01-08, at 2:39 AM. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Ave Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A UT staff member discovered four coin-operated machines located inside the women's restroom had been forced open and an unknown amount of product had been stolen. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 3-28-07 at 9:30 PM. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping under the southeast stairs. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 3-31-08, at 5:40 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: An unconscious UT student was discovered lying in the grassy area next to the dormitory. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath, but were unable to wake the student up. Austin EMS arrived at the scene and were able to awaken the student. The student was treated of alcohol poisoning at the scene and was transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Charges are pending. Occurred on: 3-30-08, at 4:29 AM. THOMPSON CONFERENCE CENTER, 2405 Red River Burglary: During a follow-up investigation of a suspect arrested for burglary at BME, officers soon discovered that the suspected had sold audio equipment that had been stolen from TCC. The equipment was recovered. Recovered value: $6,500.00. Occurred on: 3-25-08. WEST MALL BUILDING, #3 West Mall Theft: A charcoal Raleigh mountain bicycle was stolen from the bicycle racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 3-31-08, at 8:45 PM and 4-01-08, at 12:10 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A silver Mercedes was observed committing several traffic violations. During the traffic investigation the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. As the investigation continued, the officer discovered that the driver was in possession of an open bottle of Tito's vodka bottle and four bottles of beer. The officer also learned that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The officer issued the subject a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. The alcohol was confiscated by the officer. Occurred on: 3-29-08, at 6:21 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A silver Nissan was observed committing several traffic violations including running through a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath, and noted that the driver was sporting a wristband from a local watering hole. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated that he had been drinking, but was not intoxicated. The officer soon learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The subject's vehicle was impounded. Occurred on: 3-30-08, at 2:40 AM. CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE DAY: The University of Texas Police Department is again reminding everyone to secure your property. As you read in today's issue of the Campus Watch, the thieves are not taking a break. As you read along you will see that most of the property that is being stolen is personal property and not property belonging to the University of Texas. I encourage everyone to mark their personal property with their State issued driver's license number. Again the University of Texas Police Department is asking for your assistance in reporting any and all suspicious activity that you witness. Your telephone call could earn you a pizza of your choice. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 35 alarm calls, 4 medical emergencies, 7 suspicious person reports, 6 suspicious activity reports, 2 collision reports, and 13 unsecured door reports between 03-28-08 and 04-01-08.
