CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 04-25-08 and Tuesday, 04-29-08. BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave Theft: A Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a Trek U-shaped lock and a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 4-23-08 and 4-26-08. BRACKENRIDGE DORMITORY, 207 East 21st Street Assault with Bodily Injury (Family Violence): UT police officers responded to a first floor dormitory room on a reported assault. During the investigation, the officer learned that two roommates had gotten into a fight when one student refused to turn down the volume on the television. As the investigation continued, the victim refused to file charges. Occurred on: 4-26-08, at 11:26 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the time of the year that many students begin to stress over tests and grades. There are several things that could have happened to avoid these types of situations. Yes, the obvious solution is to turn the volume down. The other was to simply walk away and avoid the conflict and discuss the situation when tempers had cooled down. Had the victim filed charges, the suspect would have been looking at more serious charges than assault since both are roommates. COLORADO BUILDING, 602 West 7th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered rummaging through a dumpster. The subject was observed displaying a baseball bat when he was approached by a UT staff member. The subject told the officer that he intended to give the bat to the YMCA so that the kids could play ball. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the property. The officer did request that the subject put the bat inside a backpack until he got to the YMCA. Occurred on: 4-27-08, at 3:15 PM. DARRELL K ROYAL TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: An Apple laptop computer was stolen after being left unattended inside a 7th floor room. During the investigation, the officers learned that the victim had received several telephone calls from an unidentified subject who had "found" the stolen computer and wanted additional information to verify the victim was the owner. Loss value: $750.00. Occurred on: 4-28-08, at 5:29 PM. ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a restricted area located on the first floor. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer that he thought it was ok to be in the room since he was not a student and the room was reserved for the faculty. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 4-28-08, at 10:03 PM. GEOLOGY BUILDING, #10 East Mall Suspicious Person: A UT staff member reported seeing an unknown subject wandering the halls inside the building. The unknown subject would lower his head and turn his face in an attempt to conceal his identity. During the investigation, the officers searched the building, but were unable to locate the subject. The subject was described as: Black male wearing a black hoodie. Occurred on: 4-26-08, at 1:50 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject attempt to enter into the restricted area of the dormitory. When questioned, the subject left the area. As the officers were approaching the area, they observed the non-UT subject leaving the area. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned that the subject had several outstanding outside agency warrants issued. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 4-28-08, at 3:54 PM. PETER T FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A Samsung MP3 player and an Apple iPod were stolen from inside an open backpack after it was left unattended in the basement area of the building. Loss value: $230.00. Occurred on: 4-26-08, between 6:30 PM and 6:40 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Theft: A black cloth Coach purse containing an LG cellular telephone, $20.00 in cash, and a credit card was stolen from an unsecured 6th floor office. Loss value: $75.00. Occurred on: 4-28-08, between 3:00 PM and 3:21 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered establishing a campsite under the southeast staircase. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-25-08, at 10:27 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: A Canon Powerpoint digital camera was reported stolen after being left unsecured. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 4-27-08, between 8:10 PM and 8:25 PM. UNIVERSITY TOWERS, 801 West 24th Street Terroristic Threat: A UT student was overheard making threaten statements towards a UT staff member as well as the university in general. The student notified UT officials about his concerns. During the investigation, the officers located the student who made the threats and took the student into custody for Terroristic Threat and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-25-08. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: An Infocus LCD projector was stolen from a 3rd floor room after being left unsecured and unattended on top of a cart. Loss value: $800.00. Occurred on: 4-26-08, between 7:00 PM and 11:59 PM. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Theft: A Banshee BMX-style bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 4-25-08, between 11:00 AM and 10:00 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A black Nissan was observed stopped at the intersection for a very long time, without any oncoming cross traffic. During the investigation, the officer observed in plain view 7 unopened cases of beer and a 200ml bottle of Crown Royal. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned that the UT student driver was under the legal age of 21. The alcohol was confiscated and the student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-26-08, at 3:53 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle / Possession of Marijuana: A white Toyota was observed failing to stop at a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer noticed an open can of beer behind the driver's seat. As the investigation continued, the officer soon discovered, in plain view a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in the ashtray. The officer had the driver exit his vehicle and soon learned that the UT student driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana. During a search of the subject, the officer located a small baggie containing additional marijuana in the subject's pants pocket. Prior to the vehicle being towed away, the officer discovered a second opened bottle of beer under the driver's seat. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-29-08, at 12:04 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 80 alarm calls, 15 suspicious person reports, 11 suspicious activity reports, 3 collision reports, and 25 unsecured door reports between 04-25-08 and 04-29-08.
