CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 05-05-08 and Tuesday, 05-06-08. PERRY CASTENEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A silver Apple Powerbook laptop computer was reported stolen from a 3rd floor study area after being left unattended for just a very short time. Loss value: $1,700.00. Occurred on: 5-05-08, between 8:40 PM and 8:55 PM. PERRY CASTENEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: During the investigation of a prior theft on the 3rd floor, the officer was approached by a second student who was reporting the theft of an Apple iPhone. The officer learned that the cellular telephone had also been left unattended in the same area as the prior theft. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred on: 5-05-08, between 8:40 PM and 8:55 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This time of the year is when all of the libraries become a target rich environment. Finals are here and the thieves know it. Students, on average will leave all types of property unattended. Study in groups, more eyes watching out for each other. More opportunities to observe suspicious activity and to report that activity to the police. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the couches located on the 3rd floor. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had received several written criminal trespass warnings since 2005. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-05-08, at 1:38 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 alarm calls, 3 suspicious person reports, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 4 unsecured door reports between 05-05-08 and 05-06-08.
