CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 05-08-08 and Friday, 05-09-08. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member received a telephone call from a subject claiming to be with "Guaranty Fraud Services." The caller informed the staff member that his bank account had been flagged for fraudulent activity. When the staff member started to question the subject by asking for his name, company name and telephone number, the telephone call was terminated by the unknown caller. Occurred on: 5-08-08, at 2:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Do not be afraid to ask questions. Con artists do not like to provide any information. They will do almost anything to leave if they suspect you are on to them. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject inside a restricted 2nd floor area raiding the department's refrigerator. When the officers arrived, they saw that the subject was drinking a Slimfast, and eating a chicken and rice dinner. The staff members declined to file theft charges and the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-08-08, at 4:50 PM. GEBAUER BUILDING, #4 East Mall Theft: A red and black cloth wallet containing a credit card, $15.00 in cash and various forms of identification was stolen from an unsecured third floor office. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 5-07-08, between 10:00 AM and 7:15 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: Three non-UT subjects were discovered inside the enclosure surrounding the outdoor pool. During the investigation, the officers learned that the subjects had been playing a game of Capture the Flag and had wanted to swim "covertly" into the other team's camp. All three subjects were issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning after their "capture" and were escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-09-08, at 12:30 AM. LITTLEFIELD FOUNTAIN, South Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject and a UT student were discovered inside the construction site taking pictures. During the investigation, the non-UT subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and the student received a verbal warning along with a referral to the Dean of Students' Office. Occurred on: 5-09-08, at 2:48 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Construction sites, for some reason attracts students in the same way that a moth is attracted to a light. These sites are fenced off to keep individuals from getting into a dangerous situation. MCDONALD OBSERVATORY, 16120 State Hwy 78 Burglary of Residence: A UT staff member reported two 1-liter bottles of Crown Royal and one 1-liter bottle of Tequila had been stolen from his unsecured residence. Loss value: $94.00. Occurred between: 3-23-08 and 3-25-08. SEAY BUILDING, 108 East Dean Keeton Suspicious Person: An unknown subject entered into a 4th floor office and started looking through brochures. When a UT staff member asked if he needed assistance the unknown subject left the area. The staff member notified not only the police, but sent out a building wide email warning other staff about the suspicious person. During the investigation, the building was searched but the officers were unable to locate the unknown subject. The subject was described as: Black male, 5'-10", with an average build. The subject was last seen wearing blue jeans that were pulled up at the bottom and a brown shirt. Occurred on: 5-08-08, at 3:32 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: It is unfortunate that we were not able to locate this subject. The staff member in this case did a great job in notifying everyone to be on the look out. Good Job. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered leaning against a pillar creating a large "splash zone" while experiencing the extreme effects of a physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the student was unaware as to his location or where he had been. The subject could not maintain his balance and needed support. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-09-08, at 2:33 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Improper Disposal of Human Waste / Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer saw a non-UT subject urinating on the step located on the south side of O'Henry Hall. During the investigation, the officer soon learned that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for No Food Permit. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-09-08, at 2:18 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 alarm calls, 4 suspicious person reports, 5 suspicious activity reports, and 5 unsecured door reports between 05-08-08 and 05-09-08.
