CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday 06/03/08 and Wednesday 06/04/08. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS CENTER (BLDG. A), 2504-A Whitis Theft: A brown alligator skin wallet containing several credit and debit cards, identification cards, a check book, $10 cash and a piece of paper with the social security numbers of the victim's family written on it was stolen form a purse that was left in an unsecured office. The victim observed a subject walking toward her office when she left her office and away from her office when she returned just a few minutes later. The subject was described as a black male subject in his mid-twenties, “stocky” build, approximately 5'6” tall, bald, clean shaven and wearing a horizontal stripped shirt that was red white and possibly blue in color, black shorts and carrying a black duffle bag. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on 06/03/08 between 9:00 a.m. and 9:05 a.m. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Theft: An employee of the Longhorn Limited Store observed a non-UT subject stuffing an item into his pants while inside the Longhorn Limited Store. When the subject began to leave the store, the employee directed the subject to return the stolen items. The subject agreed and removed a single t-shirt from the front of his pants. Still looking a little thick in the pants, the employee directed the subject to return all of the items. The subject removed 2 Nike Jerseys, 4 Texas Bevo t-shirts and a felt classic t-shirt from the front of his pants. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Recovered value: $207.95 plus the cost of laundry service. Occurred on 06/03/08 at 11:37 a.m. Hungry For Justice – Today we will be delivering a pizza to the Longhorn Limited Store as their quick reporting of this theft suspect led to his apprehension. If you are Hungry for Justice, be observant and report suspicious or criminal activity on campus to UTPD at 512-471-4441. If your report leads to the apprehension of a thief, we will provide you the pizza of your choice. WILL C. HOGG BUILDING, #2 East Mall Theft: A spot cooler, portable air conditioning unit was stolen when it was left in a 1st floor hallway. Loss value: 2,618.00. Occurred between 05/27/08 and 05/30/08. 27TH STREET GARAGE, 109 West 27th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A black duffle bag was stolen from the left rear floor board of a parked and unattended 1997 Dodge. The bag contained personal documents, a pair of eye glasses and $700.00 in cash. The condition of the window molding made it difficult to determine if the door to the secured vehicle was unlocked with the use of a “slim jim.” Loss value: $775.00. Occurred on 06/03/08 between 7:10 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: A thief will break into your car if he or she simply believes there is something worth stealing. In this case, all the thief saw was a black bag, which was obviously enough to make him or her risk getting caught to commit the theft. Do not give a thief the temptation; never leave any items in your car and conceal your car's stereo by placing a towel across the dash board and let it drape down over your car's stereo.
