CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 06-10-08 and Wednesday, 6-11-08. Law Enforcement Officers put a Spin on Dinner for Special Olympics Texas this Thursday Officers across the state fill Texas Roadhouse restaurants to raise money for athletes WHO: Law Enforcement Torch Run officers… WHAT: want to serve you dinner and raise money for Special Olympics Texas athletes. Officers will serve as “celebrity waiters” to earn tips. Thirty-eight Texas Roadhouse locations statewide will participate in the Tip A Cop event on June 12. Tip A Cop is one way in which law enforcement has been able to successfully raise funds for the 27,610 children and adults in Texas. WHEN: Thursday, June 12 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. WHERE: Three Texas Roadhouse Locations: 15415 N. I-35 Service Road NB in Austin 13435 U.S. Hwy 183 North, Building 7 in Austin 9300 S. I-35 Service Road, Building F in Austin You will be Served. PERRY CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A blue backpack containing an electronic Korean / English dictionary was stolen from a 6th floor study area after being left unattended. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 6-10-08, between 12:01 PM and 12:55 PM. 2300 GUADALUPE Theft / Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A green Chevy was seen running through a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned that the non-UT driver was under the legal age of 21. The officer issued the subject a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The officer discovered a traffic cone inside the vehicle that was marked with the letters APD. The officer recognized the traffic cone as belonging to the City of Austin Police Department. The traffic cone was confiscated as evidence. Theft charges are pending. Occurred on: 6-11-08, at 12:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Everyone wants to have fun in college, during the summer, and throughout life in general. All too often, individuals associate "fun" with consuming alcohol. The pursuit of "fun" often leads to a desire to fit in with your peers. Peer pressure tends to lead to dangerous decisions. These dangerous decisions conflict with the pursuit of "fun." CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 alarm calls, 2 suspicious activity calls, and 4 unsecured door reports between 06-10-08 and 06-11-08.
