CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 07-03-08 and Monday, 07-07-08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 1900 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered on the north and west sides of the building doing tricks on his bicycle. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the property. Occurred on: 7-06-08, at 3:30 PM. CHEMICAL & PETROLEUM ENGINEERING, 200 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black and white Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Crime Prevention Tip: Thieves like opportunities. Using a self-locking cable lock as your primary lock affords little protection against theft. For minimum protection, consider using a U-shaped locked that requires a "flat key" to unlock the lock. To maximize the security of your bike, the recommendation is a two-lock locking system. This system utilizes a U-shaped lock as well as a self-locking cable lock. Thieves also see things in black and white. Either there is an opportunity to steal your property or there is not. COLORADO APARTMENT, 2500 Lake Austin Blvd Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered on the north side of the property cooking. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had intended to set up his campsite in another area, but that area was already occupied. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-06-08, at 12:12 AM. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was resting between research projects. The student was left in the area. Occurred on: 7-06-08, at 3:16 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Sleeping in a public place is a common theme on any college campus. This also creates opportunities for a thief. Use your backpack as a headrest. This will require the thief to wake you up in order to steal your property.
