CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 07-09-08 and Wednesday, 07-10-08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. KINSOLVING DORMITORY Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT student attempting to escort an unauthorized non-UT subject into the dormitory after hours. When told that his "guest" was not allowed into the dormitory, the student proceeded to bring the subject into the dormitory any. During the investigation, the officer located the student and his guest inside a second floor dormitory room. As the investigation continued, the officers learned that both subjects had been at a fraternity party. The officers soon discovered the non-UT subject had a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath, was unsure of her location, and was unable to care for herself. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-10-08, at 4:15 AM. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Suspicious Person: A non-UT subject reported that an unknown subject was following her through campus. The officer learned that the unknown subject was last seen near Jester bus stop. The unknown subject was described as: black male, slicked-back hair with a short ponytail, and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt. Occurred on: 7-09-08, at 2:50 PM. 2100 BLOCK RED RIVER Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered setting up a campsite. This is a violation of UT rules and regulations. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject was not employed as a staff member or enrolled as a student. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-09-08, at 10:47 PM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Marijuana / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of More than One Valid Driver's License: A silver Mercedes was observed committing several traffic violations while traveling north on San Jacinto. During the traffic investigation, in plain view, the officer saw a clear plastic baggie that contained suspected marijuana lying on the rear floorboard of the vehicle. As soon as the officer discovered the marijuana, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol and burned marijuana on the driver's breath as well as inside the passenger compartment. As the investigation continued, the officer had all of the occupants exit the vehicle and soon discovered all of the subjects were attending freshman orientation. The officer also discovered all of the students were under the legal age of 21. The officer learned that the UT students had been attending a fraternity party and were returning to the dormitory. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor and Possession of Marijuana. The passengers were all issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 7-10-08, at 2:30 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: As we saw in today's issue of the Campus Watch, there were several individuals that were given the opportunity to make a choice. Sometimes, the wrong choice comes with consequences. For the incoming freshmen, they will be meeting with the Dean of Students prior to the start of the fall semester in addition to meeting the local judge. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 26 alarm calls, 2 suspicious activity calls, and 4 unsecured door reports between 07-09-08 and 07-10-08.
