CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 07-10-08 and Wednesday, 07-11-08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Attempted Theft: A UT student secured her mountain bicycle to the rack located on the west side of the Main Building. Upon her return, she discovered an attempt had been made to steal her transportation. The theft was thwarted due to the fact that the intended victim had incorporated a two-lock locking system. During the investigation, the officer saw that the bicycle was still secured to the bike rack; however, the cable lock had been cut. Crime Prevention Tip: The two-locking system that was incorporated consisted of a U-shaped lock that uses a flat key and a thick self-locking cable lock. The best part, the UT student retained possession of her property. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Theft: A silver Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 7-10-08, between 4:30 PM and 5:45 PM. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass Warning: An unknown subject reported a non-UT subject whose actions made him suspicious. During the investigation, the officers located the non-UT subject pushing a shopping cart. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 7-10-08, at 10:56 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 36 alarm calls, 4 suspicious activity calls, and 7 unsecured door reports between 07-10-08 and 07-11-08.
