CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 07/11/08 and Monday, 07/14/08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. FACILITIES COMPLEX 7, 1500 East Manor Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write illegible words on the east wall of the car wash bay. Removal cost: $75.00. Discovered on 07/12/08 at 10:34 a.m. JESTER CENTER ACADEMIC, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black and grey colored Dell desktop computer was stolen from an unsecured 1st floor study carrel. Loss value: $947.00. Occurred between 05/20/08 and 07/11/08 at 4:00 p.m. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 North IH-35 Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found sleeping in the back seat of his parked vehicle. The subject stated he was new to Austin and did not have an apartment. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 07/11/08 at 2:10 a.m. UNIVERSITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 2200 East 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning (2 counts) / Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage Where Prohibited: Two non-UT subjects were found loitering on the north side of the property. One of the two subjects was asleep in a sleeping bag. Two cans of an alcoholic beverage were found next to one of the subjects. Both subjects were issued written criminal trespass warnings. Occurred on 07/12/08 at 12:26 p.m. 600 Colorado Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as attempting to start fights with two other subjects. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself and others as he was trying to fight with two friends who were trying to take care of him. Occurred on 07/12/08 at 2:29 a.m. 2600 Guadalupe Public Intoxication (2 counts) / Assault by Contact: Two non-UT subjects were found engaged in a verbal argument. One of the two subjects had already grabbed the other subject by the arm. The subjects were arguing about one of the two kicking the other subject's car. Both subjects were found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point they were both a physical endangerment to themselves and each other. Occurred on 07/14/08 at 2:37 a.m. 100 West Martin Luther King Blvd. Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a 1985 Chevrolet Caprice with out any lights to the rear of the vehicle. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for running a stop sign. Occurred on 07/12/08 at 11:43 a.m. 700 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Possession of Marijuana / Attempted Destruction of Evidence / Delivery of Contraband into a Controlled Facility: A black Ford Expedition was found stopped partially in a lane of traffic with its emergency flashers on. The Expedition was occupied by three non-UT subjects. When the officer approached the Expedition, the driver exited the vehicle and met the officer by the patrol car and began asking for directions. Upon approaching the Expedition, the officers observed the back seat passenger feverishly chewing on something. The officers noticed a green leafy substance exiting the subject's mouth. The subject eventually expelled a round green substance that proved to be .06 ounces of marijuana. While being transported to the local detention facility, the subject repeatedly made the statement he “wanted to tell the officer something, but couldn't.” Once at the detention facility, intake officers found .35 ounces of marijuana tucked in an area on the subject's body that could not readily be found on the street. Occurred on 07/13/08 at 4:06 a.m. 2500 Red River Driving While Intoxicated: A UT student was stopped for speeding and failing to maintain a single lane of traffic while driving a 1996 Ford Mustang. The student was found to have consumed an alcoholic beverage to the point she was driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 07/12/08 at 2:40 a.m. 2000 San Jacinto Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for disregarding a stop sign and speeding while driving a 2002 Chevrolet truck. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 07/13/08 at 1:30 a.m. 2600 San Jacinto Public Intoxication: A UT student was found assisting her non-UT sister as they attempted to walk along the sidewalk. The sister, who was under the age of 21, was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages at a nearby fraternity house to the point she was a physical endangerment to herself as she could not stand without assistance. The UT student agreed to assume care, custody and control of her intoxicated little sister. Occurred on 07/12/08 at 4:28 p.m. 200 West inner Campus Drive Leaving the Scene Collision: An unknown vehicle struck the left rear quarter-panel of a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette while the Corvette was legally parked and unattended. The striking vehicle left the scene without leaving any driver or striking vehicle information. Occurred between 07/10/08 at 6:00 p.m. and 07/11/08 at 1:15 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 54 alarm calls, 4 suspicious activity calls, 8 public assist requests, 2 found property reports, 2 medical emergency calls and 3 unsecured door reports between 07-11-08 and 07-14-08. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
