CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 07/15/08 and Wednesday, 07/16/08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. DOROTHY L. GEBAUER BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was reported as walking through the building asking people for money. The subject was found in the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for theft by check. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 07/15/08 at 5:07 p.m. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A wallet containing identification cards, credit cards and $400.00 in cash was stolen from a pair of pants that were left in an unsecured day-locker while the owner played basketball. The wallet was later found and turned into the gymnasium lost and found. The $400.00 in cash had been stolen from the wallet. Loss value: $400.00. Occurred on 07/15/08 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Crime Prevention Tip: Many thieves know that gymnasiums are a haven for thefts. All too often people go the gym to workout without considering what they will do with their property. One of the easiest and safest things to do is to limit what you bring to the gym. If you don't need to have certain things like cash, credit cards, laptops etc; then don't bring them to the gym. The items you do bring to the gym should be locked up while you are working out. The investment of a keyed pad lock or the quarter it costs to secure your property in a coin operated locker is a small price to pay to protect your $400.00. LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER, 4801 Lacrosse Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right rear window was broken out of a blue Suzuki sport utility vehicle while it was parked in the visitor parking lot of the facility. A 28” Samsonite suitcase containing a sleep apnea machine and several items of clothing was stolen form the vehicle. Loss value: $1,025.00. Repair Cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/15/08 between 7:40 a.m. and 8:59 a.m. Crime Prevention Tip: Auto burglars love to window-shop. They will walk around parking lots looking into windows for an opportunity to commit a burglary. Once they find a vehicle that has even the smallest of items, they simply break out a window and grab the items. To keep your car windows intact, make sure you remove all the items form your car or keep them out of sight. Most burglars will not break into your car if they can't see something worth stealing. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Graffiti / Criminal Mischief: A black marker was used to write a word and draw an image on a wall tile located inside a 2nd floor men's restroom stall. The toilet paper roll dispenser was also found broken in two. Repair costs: $70.00. Occurred on 07/15/08 between 3:45 p.m. and 5:48 p.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 alarm calls, 3 unsecured door reports and 1 motor vehicle collision between 07-15-08 and 07-16-08.
