CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 07/25/08 and Monday, 07/28/08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. *****Scam Alert***** Today, a reader of the Campus Watch sent me an e-mail she had received that seemed like a phishing scam. The e-mail indicated it needed to validate the recipient's e-mail account and asked the recipient to respond by providing their e-mail username, password and date of birth. The e-mail warned that e-mail accounts would be deactivated if the validation was not conducted. If you ever have concerns about the validity of such e-mails, contact your e-mail service provider. Do not use a telephone number provided in the e-mail; look the number for your provider up in the directory and call that number. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING, 200 East Dean Keeton Harassment: An unidentified subject placed an alarming telephone call to a UT staff member's 4th floor office phone. The staff member found the content of the telephone call to be threatening. Occurred on 07/25/08 at 3:45 p.m. GATEWAY APARTMENTS, 1618 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning (2 counts): Two non-UT subjects were found loitering by a parked vehicle near building 1618. One of the two subjects stated he was looking for a place to perform a bodily function while the second subject waited at their vehicle. Both subjects were issued written criminal trespass warnings. Occurred on 07/27/08 at 1:47 a.m. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on a couch in a 2nd floor lounge area. The subject was found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for public intoxication and a traffic violation. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. Occurred on 07/27/08 at 10:02 a.m. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Theft: Seven pairs of new Nike shoes and an external computer hard-drive were stolen from a secured 6th floor office suit. The shoes were taken form their shoeboxes. The empty shoeboxes were then mixed in with shoeboxes containing new shoes. The hard-drive was taken from inside an unsecured drawer. During the investigation, it was discovered that a set of keys had been stolen from a 6th floor office desk several months ago. No police report had been filed on the stolen keys. Loss value: $1,350.00. Occurred between 02/25/08 and 07/25/08. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass / Criminal Trespass Warning: Several subjects were reported as being inside the construction site fence located around the parking garage. One subject, who was found asleep by the officer, was issued a criminal trespass warning, while another subject was found to have previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. That subject was then taken into custody. A third subject fled the area upon approach of the police officer. Occurred on 07/25/08 at 3:00 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The passenger window was broken out of a blue 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck while the truck was parked on the 4th level of the garage. A Kenwood in-dash stereo system, black leather purse containing a wallet with several credit cards, identification cards and $130.00 in cash and an assortment of personal beauty products and a Jansport backpack containing a portable DVD player, four DVDs, an i-Pod charger and two i-Pods were stolen form the truck. Loss value: $800.00. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/26/08 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:53 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The front passenger window was broken out of a blue 2000 Ford Expedition while the vehicle was parked on the 5th level of the garage. A $25.00 gift card, an empty sunglass case and a receipt for new tires was stolen form the vehicle. Loss value: $30.00. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred between 07/24/08 at 4:00 p.m. and 07/27/08 at 1:58 a.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The rear passenger window was broken out of a tan 2002 GMC Yukon while the vehicle was parked on the 4th level of the garage. A Canon G5 digital camera was stolen from a backpack that was left in the backseat of the vehicle. Loss value: $350.00. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/27/08 between 7:30 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The passenger window of a white Ford Expedition was pushed inward while the vehicle was parked on the 4th level of the garage. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/27/08 between 7:45 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver's side window of a silver Mercedes Milan was pushed inward while the vehicle was parked on the 4th level of the garage. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 07/27/08 between 12 noon and 1:20 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The passenger window of a maroon Hyundai Tiburon was pushed inward while the vehicle was legally parked. The vehicle's Kenwood stereo faceplate had forcibly been removed form the vehicle. Repair cost: $350.00. Occurred between 07/20/08 between 6:00 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The passenger window of a black Honda CRV was pushed inward while the vehicle was parked on the 3rd level of the garage. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred between 07/21/08 and 07/27/08 at 1:30 p.m. TRINITY GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The passenger window of a black Mazda 6 was pushed inward while the vehicle was parked on the 3rd level of the garage. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred between 07/26/08 at 12 noon and 07/27/08 at 1:30 p.m. 100 West Dean Keeton Public Intoxication / Disorderly Conduct: A non-UT subject was reported as lying under a tree wearing no more than what he came into the world with. The subject was able to don his undergarment and one sock prior to the arrival of the officers. As officers gave the subject directions to sit down, the subject approached a Dodge Durango and attempted to open the back door of the vehicle. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and an unknown substance to the point Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services needed to transport the subject to a local hospital. Occurred on 07/26/08 at 5:01 a.m. 100 East Martin Luther King Driving While Intoxicated: A UT student was stopped after committing several moving violations while driving a white Mazda 3. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 07/27/08 at 2:37 a.m. 1700 Red River Driving While Intoxicated / Possession of More Than One Valid Driver's License: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was stopped for driving a 1992 Ford Mustang at night without the headlamps turned on. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. The student was also found to be in possession of another person's valid driver's license. Occurred on 07/28/08 at 1:30 a.m. 2100 Robert Dedman Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a 1997 Acura left of the center line. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for failure to maintain proof of financial responsibility. Occurred on 07/25/08 at 2:48 a.m. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 66 alarm calls, 10 unsecured door reports, 2 suspicious person reports and 3 medical emergency calls between 07/25/08 and 07/28/08. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
