CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 07-28-08 and Tuesday, 07-29-08. If you have any information pertaining to these incidents or any other criminal / suspicious activity, contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. DOTY FINE ARTS, 2301 Trinity Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A Rigid air compressor and a Knapp hand held torch were stolen from the bed of an unidentified truck. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on 7-28-08, between 12:01 PM and 1:30 PM. HARRY RANSOM CENTER, 300 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed yelling at passing pedestrians and causing a disturbance. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-28-08, at 10:11 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana: A UT staff member discovered the odor of burning marijuana emanating from a first floor dormitory room. The staff member contacted a summer camp coordinator and the coordinator also verified the odor of burning marijuana. During the investigation, the officers learned that the camp coordinator identified the two non-UT subjects inside the room and then conducted a search. During the search, the camp coordinator discovered a small cardboard box that contained a small amount of marijuana. Occurred on: 7-28-08, at 2:08 AM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered camping underneath the covered parking area of the building. During the investigation, the officers soon discovered that the subject had received a prior written warning for the area. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-28-08, at 5:30 AM. 100 BLOCK 21st STREET Theft / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed walking around several secured bicycles located on the north side of the PCL Library. The officers observed the subject remove a small headlamp from a bicycle and put the lamp into his pants pocket. The officers stopped the subject and recovered the stolen bike headlamp. The owner of the lamp refused to file criminal charges. Prior to being released, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the campus area. Recovered value: $15.00. Occurred on: 7-29-08, at 4:16 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The suspect gravitated towards the opportunity to steal the bicycle light like a moth to a flame. Take the time to remove all of your unsecured property and take it with you. 1700 BLOCK RED RIVER Driving While Intoxicated: A white Ford Mustang was observed being operated without its headlamps turned on and committing additional traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The UT student informed the officer that he had consumed two glasses of wine with his taco dinner. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-28-08, at 1:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 36 alarm calls, 2 unsecured door reports, 4suspicious person reports and 3 medical emergency calls between 07-28-08and 07-29-08.
