CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 09-05-08 and Monday, 09-08-08. If you have any information pertaining to any of these cases or other criminal or suspicious activity, please contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. AT&T EXECUTIVE CONFERENCING CENTER, 1900 University Ave Suspicious Activity: Two unknown subjects were seen wandering the 5th floor. When stopped by a UT staff member, both subjects asked for directions to the front desk. A short time later, the staff member checked with other staff to see if the subjects had come by the desk. The staff member was informed that the subjects had come by and had asked about the costs of renting a room. The staff member then attempted to locate the subjects with negative results. The unknown subjects were described as: White male, last seen wearing a blue shirt and scraggly hair. Second subject: Black male, wearing a dark colored shirt and ball cap. Occurred on: 9-08-08 at 1:35 AM. AT&T EXECUTIVE CONFERENCING CENTER, 1900 University Ave Suspicious Activity: A UT police officer observed a subject enter into the building and get into an argument with an employee cleaning the area. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had entered into the building in order to make an "unofficial" cheese plate. As the investigation continued the subject changed his story to include the fact that his friend had gotten married, the friend was staying in the hotel, and the subject was off duty when he entered the building to make the cheese plate. As the investigation continued, the subject became argumentative towards the officers. The subject was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 9-7-08, at 12:17 AM. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member observed a subject walking around the bike racks located on the west side of the building. The staff member observed the subject remove several keys and attempt to open a secured bicycle lock. The staff member notified the UT police and went outside and saw the subject riding off on the bicycle. The unknown subject was described as: Asian male, late 30s, last seen wearing silver shorts and a dark colored shirt. Occurred on: 9-05-08, at 5:17 PM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass / Failure to Identify / Resisting Arrest: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a restricted area of the building. During the investigation, the subject attempted to run after giving the officer a false name. The subject began resisting the officers and broke away running. As the subject was running, he tripped and fell face first. As the subject attempted to get up the officers took control of the subject. The officers told him to "Stop Resisting!", the subject replied, "I'm done." As the investigation continued, the officers located the subject's ID and soon learned that he had three outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants to include a felony theft warrant. The subject was taken into custody for Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass / Failure to Identify / Resisting Arrest and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-06-08, at 9:15 AM. CONSTRUCTION SITE, 2400 Block Speedway Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member observed two unknown subjects enter into a construction site and remove two or three poles. During the investigation the area was searched with negative results. Occurred on: 9-07-08, at 10:25 PM. ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A grey Dell laptop computer was reported stolen after the property had been left unattended while the former owner took care of some personal business. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 9-07-08, between 12:45 PM and 12:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Marking your property with your driver's license number is one way to make it harder for a thief to sell your property. I would like to take this time to announce a new partnership between UTPD and the Residents Assistant Association. The RAA and UTPD have begun a program called Make Your Mark. Engravers are now available inside all of the dormitories for all UT students to check out and mark their property with their State issued driver's license or ID card. Please take the time to check out the engraver and take the additional time to mark all of your property. PARKING LOT 114, 2200 Leona Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered his Jensen AM/FM/CD stereo missing from his Honda Accord. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 9-04-08 and 9-05-08. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The owner of a green Ford truck discovered someone had entered his vehicle and had taken a tire gauge and a baggie containing an unknown number of coins. Loss value: Unknown. Occurred: Unknown. ROBERT L. MOORE, 2515 Speedway Theft: An Apple iPhone was reported stolen after it fell out of the owner's pocket. During the investigation, the victim stated that he called the telephone several times and that an unknown subject answered the telephone, then hung up on him. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 9-05-08, between 1:30 and 1:35 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Graffiti: Words written in black aerosol spray paint were discovered on the east side of the building. Loss value: $50.00. Discovered on: 9-08-08, at 2:30 AM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): Two non-UT subjects were seen holding a cup and stopping individuals and asking them for money. During the investigation, both subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the property. Occurred on: 9-05-08, at 4:01 PM. 100 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Driving While intoxicated: A white four-door Chevy was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. Prior to stopping the vehicle, the officer observed the vehicle commit several additional traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The officer requested, from the driver, her driver's license and insurance. The driver informed the officers that she had left her purse inside the trunk of her vehicle. While attempting to retrieve her license, the non-UT driver had a hard time maintaining her balance on level pavement. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-07-08, at 3:40 AM. 400 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A black Toyota was seen traveling east on 24th Street and making a lefthand turn that almost ended in a collision. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer also learned that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and determined that the driver did not display enough clues that would indicate she was Driving While Intoxicated. The officer issued the non-UT subject a field release citation for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. As the investigation was concluding, the officer learned that the passenger in the vehicle was sober and had not been drinking. Occurred on: 9-07-08, at 3:38 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The driver in this case could have avoided all of her legal troubles by simply having allowed her sober friend to drive. 600 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed two subjects walking and a third stumbling and attempting to remain upright. As the officer was watching, the stumbling subject fell into a bush and need the help of his cohorts to get up. During the investigation, the stumbling subject told the officer that his friends had pushed him into the bush. As the investigation continued, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on the breath of the stumbling UT student and not on the breaths of the student's cohorts. The officer discovered that the student was under the legal age of 21 and had consumed alcohol. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-05-08, at 1:49 AM. 2500 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Assist Outside Agency: A silver Hyundai was observed traveling without its headlamps turned on. During the investigation the officer soon learned that the driver had two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-07-08, at 12:30 AM. 2700 GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT student was seen staggering and swaying back and forth as he attempted to walk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject could not maintain his balance. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-05-08, at 2:44 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 68 alarm calls, 3 unsecured door reports, 2 medical emergencies, 1 lighting survey, and 2 suspicious activity reports between 09-05-08 and 09-08-08.
