ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department will be hosting the 4th annual Citizen's Police Academy. The CPA will be held every Monday night beginning October 6th 2008. The academy will end November 17, 2008 with a graduation ceremony. If you are interested in attending the next Citizen's Police Academy, contact Capt. Don Verett at 232-6444 or don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT student discovered an unknown subject had attempted to cut through his self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $20.00. Discovered on: 9-09-08, at 12:11 AM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted her from the area. Occurred on: 9-09-08, at 3:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: The following is a series of excerpts that will address current traffic issues at the University of Texas. The University of Texas generally has three types of traffic; pedestrian traffic, bicycle traffic and motor vehicle traffic – there is no skateboarding, roller-skating or rollerblading allowed on the UT campus. People who participate in any of the authorized forms of transportation are responsible for doing their part to reduce collisions; thereby mitigating injuries. Pedestrians should walk on the sidewalks, cross the road at designated places and never cross the road against the light. The intersections located on Dean Keeton Street (north campus) are set up to allow pedestrian crossing in all directions at the same time. That of course means pedestrians should only cross the road when they have a cross signal – not when a traffic lane has a green light. When crossing any road, you should make sure oncoming traffic sees you and is stopped before you venture into a lane of traffic. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 33 alarm calls, 1 medical emergency, 3 unsecured door reports, and 2 suspicious activity reports between 09-08-08 and 09-09-08. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or via e-mail to Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu .
